Mayan Ruins Are Made
The Mayan Ruins were made in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala (but Mexico has some of the most impressive ruins). There are about three or four different ruins. Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza, and Ek Balam are some examples. -

Mayan Writing
The Mayan writing started. They used pictographs to communicate to others. Some they wrote messages like, “There is an intruder coming” and “Take cover.” -

Mayans Begin Farming
The Maya begins farming. This causes the population to grow in size by a good bit. It also connects them to society more. -

Tikal Was Formed
The settlement of Tikal was formed. Then it became a major city for the Mayans. Tikal was the first structures that were built on the North Acropolis. -

Mayan Monarchy
Mayans adopted the idea of monarchy for their government. They are now ruled by kings and queens. Their first ruler was Yik’in Chan K’awiil. -

First Pyramids
The Mayans build their first pyramids, nearly 3000 years ago. Today, they are considered the greatest tourist attraction of Mexico and Central America. The names were, Pyramid of the Moon, Pyramid of the Sun, Tikal Pyramid, and Castillo. -

Teotihuacan Becomes A Dominant City
The city-state Teotihuacan becomes a dominant city over the Mayan Highlands. The Maya Highlands extend from Guatemala and Belize. The Maya Highlands are 800 meters above sae level. -

Chichen Itza Becomes The Most Powerful
The city-state of Chichen Itza becomes the most powerful city-state in the region. It ruled from for the next 200 years. Chichen Itza is located in the country of Mexico. -

Conquered By The Spanish
Most of the Mayan cities-states were conquered by the Spanish. Began in the 16th century and is considered to end in 1697. It was lead by Conquistador Pedro de Alvarado.
