This battle began in a village close to, Boston Massachusetts. There were 600 British soldiers and 70 American men. The British were sent there to investigate claims that the colonist were stockpiling weapons in Concord. This battle was important because it signled the start of, The American Revolution. -
The Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
Ethan Alan and Benedict Arnold led 83 Americans through the mornign fog and snuck into the fort while the British soldiers were sleeping and took over the British soliders without a shot being fired. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
This was the first major battle where the British defeated the Americans. The battle started on an adjacent hill called, Breed's Hill, and as the battle raged on the Americans sought refuge at, Bunker Hill. The battle lasted 3 hours and was the deadliest battle of, The American Revolution. The British suffered more losses than the Americans. The American proved to themselves that they could stand against the British. and they were not invincible. -
The Battle of Long Island
The Battle of Long Island was led by, George Washington, Israel Putnam, and William Alexander and ended on August 30, 1776. Having lost to Boston, The British were determined to take over New York. This was the first large scale battle of the war, Washington sent 4000 of his men to guard the, Heights of Guana which left him vulnarable. Washington lost 1000 men, so he and the remaining men retreated to their head quarters on Manhattan Island. -
BATTLE OF SARATOGA
The Battle of Saratoga was led by, Benedict Anold, Daniel Morgan and Horatio Gates it lasted about 3 weeks. At first, the British Army forced the Americans to retreat but, as their supplies began to run out he sent 700 of his soldiers to, Vermont to get more supplies. Thoe soliders were captured by, New Hampshire militia forces and Burgoyne, the leader of the British Army was forced to surrender.This battle is condidered to be the turning point in the war. -
The Battle of Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the, American Revolutionary War. The Americans were led by,George Washington and the British were led by, Cornwalis. The battle ended on, October 19, 1781. Cornwalis tried to escape with his men across the, New York River but were met with a squall of bad weather. Cornwalis ran out ammunition and was forced to surrender. A single drummer mounted the british works and beat the long roll as a lieutenant waved a white flag.
