Ariel Misses Her Show
This is part of the movie's exposition because we are just being introduced to the characters and their roles. All the sea creatures and mermaids are swimming toward King Triton's Palace in Atlantica. They start introducing King Triton and his seven daughters but as they introduce Ariel she is gone. The King asks Sebastion if he can keep an eye on Ariel. -
Shipwreck Scene
This is the exposition because we are just learning about Ariel's adventurous personality and how she has a hobby to collect things from humans. Before Ariel and flounder explore the shipwreck flounder makes excuses so he won't have to go in there. So Ariel tells him he can just wait and watch for sharks, which is foreshadowing that they might run into a shark. This shows how Flounder is a guppy. As she is collecting a fork she runs into a shark and the two barely make it out alive. -
Ariel Goes to See Scuttle
This part of the movie is part of the exposition because we meet Scuttle the "expert on human objects" who then tells Ariel about her fork. He says it is called a "Dinglehopper" and is used to brush your hair. -
Ariel Sings About Human Life On Land
This part is rising action because she is singing about how she longs to be on land instead of the sea. She wishes she could be "part of your world". She heads to her secret stashing place and says how she wants more objects and more knowledge about humans. -
Ariel Saves Eric From Sinking Ship!
This part is rising action because due to a raging storm/sea Prince Eric's ship is sinking and Eric's statue sinks to the sea. Everyone is thrown overboard but Eric goes back on the ship to save Max from the fire and from drowning. He then gets stuck and Ariel rushes to save the drowning prince. She then brings him to land and just observes him and makes sure he is alive. Mesmerized she starts to sing and Eric is found by his dog Max and can't stop thinking about the girl that saved him. -
Flounder Gives Ariel Eric's Statue, But King Triton has other Ideas.
This part is rising action because Sebastion goes and tells the King about how Ariel loves a human. Flounder has a surprise for Ariel which is the statue of Prince Eric that sank into the sea but little did Ariel know that her father was furious. Ariel spots him in the cave and tells Ariel about the dangers of humans and how she disobeyed him. Ariel says "Daddy I love him!" he says Ariel I have to get through to you and if this is the only way so be it! He destroys every trace of her collection. -
Ariel Meets Ursula
This is a rising action because after her father destroyed her collection two eels enter her cave and ask her what is wrong. They tell her about Ursula and she follows them to Ursula's home. And makes a deal with her that she will make a potion that turns her into a human and she has three days to make Eric fall in love with her before the sun sets on the third day. She has to get a kiss of TRUE love. If she succeeds she will be a human forever. If not she will be a mermaid and belong to her. -
Ariel Meets Eric Again
This part is rising action because Ursula asks for her voice as payment so Ariel sings and becomes human! Flounder helps Ariel get to land and Eric finds her and thinks she is the one that saved him only to find she has no voice... so he helps her to the palace and she gets cleaned up and sees a fork (dinglehopper) and brushes her hair. Sebastion had a wild ride with the chef and almost got served as the main course! -
Eric and Ariel's Tour of The Town
This is part of the rising action because Ariel and Eric go for a tour of the town seeing all kinds of things Ariel only dreamed of. Even with no voice Ariel and Eric had a connection... They took a boat ride and Sebastion and other sea creatures sang "you wanna kiss the girl". Right as they were gonna kiss Ursula's goons (2 eels) tipped the boat and Ariel and Eric fell out. Then Ursula decides to take matters into her own hands... She uses Ariel's voice to turn herself into Vanessa the human. -
Vanessa or Ursula?
This is rising action because after Eric and Ariel return to the palace after their tour. Ariel can't stop thinking about the wonderful day they had. She waves to eric from her window but then he sees a girl walking on the beach and singing with the same voice he heard. The next day Ariel hurried down and heard Eric talking about "marrying the girl" heartbroken she finds out he is engaged to another girl. Eric's eyes looked different though like he was under a spell which was foreshadowing. -
Determined Ariel.
This is rising action because Eric and Vanessa rush off to be married leaving Ariel alone and heartbroken. Scuttle flys by the ship and hears "Vanessa" singing about how the ocean will be hers and her plan. He finds out that Vanessa is really Ursula in disguise with Ariel's voice. Scuttle tells Ariel, then she is determined to save her prince and fight for love! She swims to the ship with help from Flounder and Sebastion telling King Triton. Scuttle needed to stop that wedding! -
Stopping The Wedding!
This is the climax! Scuttle brought a bunch of animals and sea creatures to crash the wedding and attack Ursula. Scuttle and Max broke Ursula's necklace that kept Ariel's voice in it. And Eric figured out the truth but before he could kiss her she became a mermaid once again. Ursula turned into her true self and took Ariel because she was now hers... -
Ursula Queen of The Sea?
This is also the climax Ariel's dad gives himself up so Ariel can be free and now Ursula owns him! She takes his trident as King Titron turns into a worm and Ursula now controls the sea! Eric jumps in and won't leave Ariel. The couple gets split up and Ursula makes a big whirlpool that brings sunken ships above the water again. Eric gets ahold of a ship and steers it right for Ursula while Ursula tries to zap Ariel. Eric succeeds and the two love birds are reunited and have taken down Ursula. -
Reunited
This part is the falling action because Ariel is a mermaid again and longs to be with her true love. Her father grants her legs and she is reunited with Eric. -
The Happy Ending
This is the resolution because they get married and Ariel begins a new chapter of her life with her true love. And sail into the sea.
