Bought into slavery
Wheatley was kidnapped and brought over in a slave ship to Boston, Massachusetts. There, she was puchased as a house slave by John Wheatley. -
She wrote her first poem
Wheatley was very well educated for a house slave. She was treated very well by her owners and execelled in poetry, Latin, and Greek. -
"Poems on Various Subjects, Religous and Morals,"
Wheatley's first poem is published by the financial aid of her owner, Susanna, being the first African-American and slave to publish a poem. -
She Gets Married
She married a free Afircan-American named John Peters, then settled in Delaware. -
Death
She died in Boston, Massachusetts on December 5th, 1784. She was 31 years old and her infant son died 3 ½ hours later after her death.
