Edgar was born in Boston by Elizabeth Arnold Poe. -
Poe's mother dies
Elizabeth died of tuberculosis in Richmond Virginia. -
Edgar has lives with his foster father
Poe was close to his foster mother, Frances, but never close to his foster father. He always thought that Poe was a punk. They lived in England from 1815 - 1820. Then in 1842, when Poe was 15, he moved back to Richmond. -
Poe enlists a US army name
Poe enlisted a military name, "Edgar A. Perry." He did as well as a soldier. He ranked as a sergent major. He ketp writing. He wrote as an anonymous person. (the only writer called "A Bostonian). -
Poe goes to a military Academy at West Point.
Poe stayed for a little while but then noticed that this wasn't the school for him. He then kicked himself out of the academy. He wrote, "The army does not suit a poor man — so I left W. Point abruptly," he later wrote, "and threw myself upon literature as a resource. I became first known to the literary world thus." -
Poe is hired
Poe was hired to become the editor of Southern Literay Messanger. When Poe wrote his poems on his own, he made new genres of writing. -
Poe falls in love
As Poe is the editor he then falls in love with a girl. And that girl was his 13-year-old first cousin, Vriginia Clemm. He woote, "I love, you know I love Virginia passionately devotedly. I cannot express in words the fervent devotion I feel towards my dear little cousin — my own darling," He then wrote a letter to his anut to have permission to marry her, Edgar Allen Poe was 26 years old. -
Virginia starts to die
Poe finally got marry his cousin, Virginia. One day they were playing the piano. All of the sudden Virginia starts to bleed form her mouth, this was a symptom of tuberculosis. He was worried about his true love. -
Poe publishes a poem
Edgar publishes a poem of his, The Raven. He publishes it to the New York Evening Mirror. Poe always wanted his own magazine. He then purchased the Broadway Journal. The magazine then failed in January 1846. -
Virginia Dies
Virginia dies of tuberculosis at the old couples home in the Bronx. -
Poe dies
Poe was in Baltimore on 28 September 1849. On 3 October 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was found at a Baltimore street (some reports say in a gutter), semi-conscious and wearing clothes that didn't fit him. He was taken to a hospital, where he spent four delirious days before perishing on 7 October 1849. He was 40 years old.
