  • Prohibition

    The Prohibition began (means alcohol became illegal). Ted's dad owned a beer company. When beer became illegal Ted's dad lost his job and they struggled with money.
  • Ted Went to Darmouth College

    Ted went to Darmouth College because his English teacher went there and that was the only subject he liked. While at Darmouth he found a magazine that he loved called Jack-O-Lantern. Ted started working for the magazine.
  • Graduation from Darmouth

    Right before graduation Ted threw a party and somebody brought alcohol and the police came and he got into trouble because it was still prohibition. Ted was not allowed to write in Jack-O-Lantern ever again. Ted signed fake names so he could sneak and write in the paper again.
  • Oxford University, England

    Oxford University, England
    Ted moved to England to go to Oxford University. Ted met Helen Palmer and fell in love. Ted dropped out of Oxford.
  • Saturday Evening Post

    Ted moved back in with his parents and got a job at the Saturday Evening Post drawing cartoons. He sent his cartoons to everyone he knew. Ted sighned it Seuss. Ted made some money.
  • Ted marries Helen

    Ted moved to New York City. Ted got a job at a magazine called Judge. Ted had enough money to marry Helen.
  • Flit

    Flit
    Ted got lucky. It started with Flit, a popular bug killer. Before there was air-conditioning people had to keep their windows open and houses became full of bugs. Ted wrote a cartoon about Flit. The wife of owner of Flit saw the cartoon and loved it. His comic was so popular everyone was talking about it
  • And to Think I Saw It onMullberry Street

    Ted wrote his first rhyming book, And to Think I Saw It on Mullberry Street.
  • World War II

    Ted stopped writing children's books because of World War II. Instead he wrote political anti-war cartoons.
  • Horton Hears a Who!

    Horton Hears a Who!
    After visiting Japan Ted wrote one of his most famous books, Horton Hears a Who. Helen suffers an illness.
  • Cat in the Hat

    Cat in the Hat
    A magazine called Life featured an article about how kids have trouble reading and how boring children's books are. A friend of Ted's asked him to write a children's story that no one could put down. Then the Cat in the Hat arrived. It was published in 1957.
  • Superstar Author

    Superstar Author
    The Cat in the Hat made Ted a superstar author. He also wrote the Grinch that Stole Christmas which became a Christmas Television special in 1966. He became hugely successful.
  • Helen Dies

    Ted's wife died of her illness
  • Audrey Diamond

    Audrey Diamond
    Ted got remarried to Audrey Diamond. Ted and Audrey went to Africa. Ted made a new book the Lorax and when he went to Africa the trees reminded him of the trees in Ted's book.
  • Pulitzer Prize

    Ted received a great honor, the Pulitzer Prize. This prize has never been given to a children's author before that
  • Ted dies

    Ted dies
    Ted died but Ted's books are still popular. Although Ted passed away children around the world will still read Dr. Seuss books.
