On a beautiful sunny day, at 6:30 p.m. Hong Kong standard time, I was born at Tsun Yuk Hospital on Hong Kong island on February 16th, 1995. I weighed seven pounds and I was twenty three inches long, meaning I was quite a big baby. I was the first child of my parents, and I was to be their only child as well. -

Father graudates from University
On this date, twenty years after finishing my school, my father graduated frmo university at long last. This date is significant because it showed me that anything was possible and because it also set a great expectation from my parents that I should be attending university in the future as well. To this day, that expectation remains. -
Immigration to Canada
On this date, the plane I was boarding set off from Hong Kong Internation Airport, bound for Toronto, Canada. I was immigrating, like many others from Hong Kong at the time, to a new land where we were going to start new. This date is significant because relocating affected practically everything in my life, from educatino to culture. It played a great role in the how I was to evolve as a person. -
First day of school!
On this date, I wobbled into the kindergarten classroom of Roy H. Crosby P.S. and I blankly started my first day of school. I cannot recall anything from that special day, except for the eyes of my classmates-to-be staring curiously at me as I stumbled towards them. It marked the first day of my eight years to come at Crosby, which passed much faster than I thought it would. -
First piano lesson
On this date, my mother dragged me into the home of her colleage from the past and there I sat in front of a piano for the first time. This day is significant because it sparked my love for music, which may not be directly related to my career goal but has played a great role in shaping who I am. My expertise in the instrument also opens many side job opportunities for me, such as being an accompanist. -
First election onto student council
On this date, I was elected to be one of two representatives for my class onto Roy H. Crosby's student council. It was my first time running for such a position and therefore also my first time being elected. This event is significant because it opened the doorway to nurturing my leadership potential and also provides as a foundation for my current career goals. -
Rejected from the gifted program
On this date, I received a letter saying that I had not met the "intellectual ability creterion" of the gifted screening process and that they would not take me. Never before have I received such a severe blow to my self esteem. This event is significant because it narrowed my academic pathway of the future. It also resulted in my parents losing confidence in me, which reduced their expectations and may have contributed to my academic success today. -
2004 Canadian Federal Election kicks off
On this date, then Governor General Adrienne Clarkson dissolved parliament and campaigning for the 2004 Canadian federal election began shortly after. This event is significant because it was the first election that my parents were eligible to vote in, and therefore they paid much more attention to the news and educated themselves about the political landscape. This brought much talk of politics into the household, which sparked my interest and contributed toward s my current career goals. -
Joining the Scouting Movement
On this date, a family friend brought me to "where she had fun every Wednesday night," and donning a uniform of any kind for the first time in my life, I walked into the gym and was introduced to the world of Scouting. This date is significant because joining the Scouting movement has taught me many life lessons, as well as many outdoor survival skills. Furthermore, it influenced my political ideologies and strengthened my passion for helping others and my love for the outdoors. -
Regional Track & Field Victory
In my sixth grade and final year at Roy H. Crosby, I began increasing my involvement in athletics. The last team I joined, track and field, was a major success because on this date I went to ehr egional championships and returned with a first place ribbon, despite impossible odds. This date is significant because it ignited my hopes for a future in the athletics field and was one of the motivating factors towards my high school selection of Bill Crothers S.S. two years ago. -
Grade 6 Farewell
On this date, the official "farewell" ceremony for the graduating class of my first elementary school, Roy H. Crosby, was held. Much to my disappointment, and despite high hopes and high odds, I failed to receive a single award. This date is significant because being as emotionally unstable as I am, it completely unravelled the newfound confidence from my athletic endeavours and undermined my self esteem, indirectly contributing to my academic life ahead. -
Grade 7 at a New School
On this date, I walked into the doors of a new school for my first time in recent memory, hoping that my experiences at this new school for the next two years would be as positive as those of the last eight. It turned out to be the opposite of what I hoped. This date is significant because it marks the beginning of a dark era for my social life. My social experiences at this school were horrible and I soon found myself not wanting to go to school and therefore my dreams for the future fading. -
Choosing a High School
On this date, I had the longest sit-down of my life with my parents. The occasion: deciding which high school to go to, between Unionville HIgh and Bill Crothers S.S. This date is significant because choosing Bill Crothers significantly altered my pathway in life and further pushed art into the corners of my mind. Although it is reversed now, this is what happened at the time, and now I greatly regret my choice. -
Grade 8 Graduation
On this date, dressed in a suit for the first time, I received my elementary school diploma (and my first award while I was at it). This date is significant because it marked the end of two dark years of elementary school during which I had very few friends and little enthusiasm for studying. But during these two years, I began to realize who I really was. Also, following graduation, I began to open up to the world and dream once again. -
First day of High School
On this date, I entered a scary, new world that evaporated all of my excitement away. I met many people and interesting teachers and marvelled at the independance that high school students were finally rewarded with. This date is significant because my first day at Bill Crothers marked the beginning of the year-long process of the strenghtening of my ideologies and values from my experiences at the school. I ended up disliking the school very much, and decided yet again to seek another way out. -
Home at Last
On this date, I touched down at Hong Kong International Airport, touching home soil for the first time in living memory. I took three weeks off of school to visit family that I have not seen for twelve years. This date is significant because it opened my eyes to just how different places can be halfway across the globe. It gave me many new insights, as well as lessons that my relatives and family friends gave me. It was a wonderful experience. -
Transfer to Markville Granted
On this date, I received a voice message from the Markville guidance department that would change the course of my life yet again. After failing to receive approvals for transfer requests to two other schools, Markville finally accepted mine after much anticipation. This date is significant because it opened up another door for me to walk through. I would be meeting new people and studying in a new, more positive environment and I was very excited for what was to come. -
Federal Election SImulation
On this date, I delivered a speech and my party platform as the leader of the "United Left Party" in an election simulation assignment for Civics class. This date is significant because it reignited a lost flame within my heart. It is responsible for my current dreams of entering politics and law. -
I saw Iggy!
On this date, I was planting trees with my fellow boy scouts when Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff decided to show up for some last-minute campaigning. Ecstatic, I shook his hand, spoke with him briefly and also got a few photos with Ignatieff and his fellow MPs. This date is significant because it was truly inspirational, seeing the Liberal leader, and it propelled my desire to enter politics and law even further. -
Graduation from High School
On this date, I will have graduated from Markville Secondary School and heading off to university. This date is significant because it will mark yet another huge shift in the course of my life and it will also mark the end of my high school days, which I will have thoroughly enjoyed. -
First day of University
On this date, I will be living my dream as I attend my first day of classes in university. This date is significant because, like my first day of high school, it will open me up to a new world that I have never seen before. Regardless of where I go or what program I choose to enter, I hope that I will learn as much from university (academically, socially and morally) as I have learned from high school.
