Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland. She was the youngest of five children. Her parents were Branswila and Vladislav Sklodwska. -
Marie moves to France
She went to Paris to continue her studies at the Sorbonne. She obtaianed her Licenciteship in Mathematics and Physics. She also met Pierre Curie, a profesor in the School of Physics and future husband. -
Marie discovers two new elements
In 1898 Marie and Pierre Curie discovered a new radioctive element and named it polonium, after her home , Poland. They also discovered radium, which means "shedding rays'. She was only able to find 0.1 gram of radium. -
Nobel Prize in Physics
Marie and Pierre Curie recieved half of the Nobel Prize for Physicsfor thei study in spontaneous radiation. -
Marie recieves Davy Medal
Marie recieves the Davy Medal from the Royal Society of London. The medal was givin to both Marie and Pirre. This was their most prestiges award. -
Pierre Curie dies
In 1906 Maria's husband Pierre died. Maria took his place as professor of General Physics. She became the first woman to have this position. -
Won Nobel Prize in Chemistry
Marie Curie won a nobel prize in chemistry for her work in radioactivity. She was being recognized for her discovery of the elements; radium and polonium. So far, she was the only women to win two Nobel Prizes. -
Recieves Radium from President Harding
In 1921 , Presdent Harding of The United Statae gave her 1 gram of radium on behalf of American Women. It was in recognition of he service in science. She set a good example for women and all they could do. -
Marie recieves $50,000
Marie is rewarded with $50,000 by President Hoover. The gift was from science friends and it allowed Marie to continue her research on cancer. -
Marie Curie dies
Marie Curie died in Savoy, France. She died of aplastic anaemia, which is a blood disease that people contract from over exposure to radiation. -
