    King of Afghanistan.

  • Mohammed Daoud Khan becomes prime minister

    The King's cousin and brother in law becomes prime minister.

  • Amir is born

    Born in 1963 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

  • Hassan is born

    Born in 1964 Hazarajat, Afghanistan.

  • Hassan's surgery

    Hassan has surgery to fixed his cleft lip.

  • Kite flying competition

    Hassan and Amir win the competition. Hassan is later raped by Assef.

  • Ali and Hassan leave

    Amir sabotages Hassan and tells Baba he stole Amir's new watch and some money. This is Hassan's 'last sacrifice' for Amir when he admits to this even though it did not happen. Ali knows that what happened to Hassan and leaves with Hassan.

  • Amir's party

    Baba throws a party for Amir's 13th birthday.

  • Russians invade Afghanistan

    Baba sets off with Amir to Pakistan to find safety away from the Russians invading Afghanistan.

  • Amir and Baba arrive in USA

    They arrive in San Francisco, USA.

  • Baba starts at job

    Baba gets a job in a gas station which he struggles with as he was such high status in Kabul.

  • Amir graduates high school

    Graduates in San Francisco, USA.

  • Baba and Amir start selling things at a flea market

    This is were Amir meets Soraya.

  • Amir and Soraya get married

    Soraya admits prior to the marriage she ran away with an Afghan man in which they lived together for a month before her dad found her and brought her home. Amir accepts Soraya is not a virgin and still marries her because he is aware he is also not perfect.

  • Baba dies

    Amir and Soraya move in with Baba while he is sick. Baba decides not to take his medicine and that night he dies.

  • Amir's first book is published

    Amir embarks on a successful career as a novelist.

  • Sohrab is born

    Hassan now has a son called Sohrab, after the book Amir used to read to Hassan.

  • Hassan and Farzana are killed by the Taliban

    Hassan and his wife Farzana are shot by the Taliban. Hassan is shot first for refusing to leave Baba's house and Farzana is shot shortly after.

  • Amir gets a phone call from Rahim Khan

    Amir has just gotten off the phone with Rahim Khan, who is in Pakistan and is very sick. He wants Amir to come see him, and says “there is a way to be good again.” suggesting he knows about what happened to Hassan and what Amir did.
