Hassan's surgery
Cleft lip For Hassan's birthday, Baba surprises Hassan by paying to fix his cleft lip. Hassan was scared and didn't want to do the surgery. But, Hassan gains courage and goes into surgery which turned out to be a success. -
Kite competition
Amir decides to compete in the kite-fighting competition, because he likes the sport, but mainly because he wants to get his father's admiration. -
Hassan's life changes
Bullying Hassan promises Amir to run after the last defeated kite. He finds the blue kite, but is chased by boys. Amir follows him and discovers Assef, Kamal, and Wali fighting with Hassan and Assef ends up raping Hassan. Amir runs away in fear and doesn't protect Hassan. -
Ali and Hassan leave the house
Amir wants to stop feeling guilty, so he pretends that Hassan stole his watch. Hassan took the blame but Baba still forgives him. Ali and Hassan decide to leave the house. -
Baba and Amir move to the United States
This was the year that Baba and Amir escape Kabul, Afghanistan. Baba left everything behind in his country, such as his home, his friends and his job. They left to find a better life for Amir. -
Amir and Soraya get married
Amir falls in love with an Afghan girl named Soraya Taheri, who he gets to know at the Saturday swap meets. Amir and Sorays end up getting married. They are both extremely happy to be with each other. -
Baba passes away
Smoking Baba continued to smoke and ended up getting lung cancer. He was able to live to attend Amir's and Soraya's wedding, but he died a month later. -
Amir goes to Pakistan
Amir goes to Pakistan. He gets a call from Baba's old friend Rahim Khan, who is sick and old and living in Pakistan. Amir plans his trip to see him. He hopes that coming to Pakistan will give him a chance to redeem himself. -
Assef and Amir fight
Amir goes to Afghanistan to rescue Hassan's son, Sohrab. At the house, Amir meets Assef, his childhood enemy. Sohrab is being kept at the home where Assef might have been raping him. Assef agrees to give him to Amir, but only if Amir will fight him. Amir is saved when Sohrab uses his slingshot to shoot Assef's eye. Amir and Sohrab escape to go find freedom. -
Sohrab tries to commit suicide
Amir finds Sohrab in the bathtub almost dead. He was trying to commit suicide because of all the pain he had gone through. Amir ends up praying and hoping that he survives. -
Sohrab in America
When they get to America, Sohrab will not talk because he is so wounded emotionally. One day Amir talks to him about his father, Hassan, while they go kite flying. Amir shows off some of Hassan’s old tricks, and Sohrab begins to interact with Amir again.
