Hassan and Amir win the kite running contest
kite running December 14, 1975- Amir and Hassan win the kite running contest. Later that day Hassan gets raped by Assef in the alley and Amir chooses not to help Hassan. That was the last time Amir saw Hassan run a kite. Amir’s life changed completely from this point on. -
hassan and Ali leave baba's house
June 15, 1976- Ali and Hassan stop working for Baba and leave the house. Amir puts money under Hassan’s mattress to frame him so Ali and Hassan could leave. Amir doesn’t want to feel guilt anymore because he is a coward and was not willing to confront the situation of the betrayal of Hassan. He let Hassan take the fall because he believed Hassan was sacrificing himself. Hassan was the “lamb that he had to sacrifice” in order to win Baba. -
Baba and Amir escape from Kabul
March 18, 1981- Russians invade Afghanistan and Baba and Amir escape from Kabul. They leave to Jalalabad and from there they would be taken to Peshawar. Karim told them that his brother could take them to Peshawar but his car needed repair so they needed to wait at least a week. Then he says his brother’s car is going to take too long to repair and he is going to take them in his friend’s tank. -
Baba and Amir are in America
February 18, 1982- Baba and Amir arrive in Fremont, California. Baba is having a hard time getting use to living in America and is going through some tough times. America was the place that Amir would bury his memories and Baba to mourn his. The U.S. announced it would be boycotting the Olympic Games in Moscow. -
Amir meets Soraya
May 16, 1985- Amir meets Soraya for the first time and Soraya and Amir Start talking about different things like Amir’s writings. This continues for a few weeks and then Soraya’s father notices their continual conversations and tells Amir that he is not doing it in the right manner. He tells him that is not allowed in their tradition to casually make conversations without doing it the traditional manner by asking the father for permission. Later on in the summer Baba is diagnosed with cancer. -
Amir and Soraya get married
January 12, 1986- Amir asks Baba to ask General Taheri if he could marry his daughter. Then Soraya tells Amir her past but Amir does not care because his past is even worse than hers but he decides not to tell her. They had to speed up the wedding so Baba could be alive to see his son get married. Baba paid for all the wedding expenses .The night of the wedding Amir felt the passion of a woman for the first time. A month after the wedding Baba passes away. -
amir publishes his first novel
July 26, 1988- Amir finishes his first novel and it gets published. Amir feels goodness in his life. He feels everything is now working out for him and Soraya. He questions himself if he deserved any of this after all the harm he’s done. He now feels a little bit of relief after living with guilt for so many years. -
soraya can't have a child
March 21, 1991- Soraya and Amir are trying to have a child. Soraya has taken thousands of medical tests and the doctor suggests she should adopt. Her parents tell her maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Soraya doesn’t want to adopt because she fears that the child would one day look for his real parents. They are having doubts because blood lines are so important in Soraya’s culture. -
Rahim tells Amir that Hassan died and is his half-brother
Amir goes to see Rahim Khan since he's sick. He sees him in very bad conditions and he looks like he is going to die. He tells him that he, Hassan, and Farzana have been living in Baba’s house since they left to America. Hassan’s wife gave birth to a lifeless baby but then she got pregnant again and had Sohrab. Rahim Khan gave Amir a letter from Hassan and then told him Hassan and Farzana were killed by the Taliban’s and that he is his half-brother. He asked of him to please find Sohrab. -
Amir finds Sohrab
stoning Amir goes to Kabul to find Sohrab. They go to the Ghazi stadium and witness a stoning. Amir fights with Assef to get Sohrab. Amir gets severely injured but says this is what he deserves. Sohrab and Amir spend time together and they all decide he should be adopted. Sohrab then trys to kill himself because he finds out he has to go back to the orphanage.Sohrab then gets better and goes to San Fransisco with Amir. One day in 2002 they went to the park and Amir helped Sohrab kite run.
