    The Decline of the Khmer Empire
    The Thai army attacks Angkor and later the Khmers are forced to abandon it with its location being forgotten.

    Buddhism

    Buddhism
    The Buddhist religion once again grows important and becomes the main religion of the Khmer Kings

    Jayavarman VIII
    With the new king Jayavarman VIII Buddhism was renounced throughout the Khmer Empire and its temples and monuments were destroyed. The main religion changed to Hinduism.

    Jayavarman VII defeats the Cham Kingdom and therefore regains their eastern territory expanding the empire to its fullest extent.

    King Jayavarman III was succeeded by his cousin Indravarman as the devaraja. He further expanded the system of artifical lakes.
