    The American Civil War starts at Fort Sumter. The Confederates attacked the Union Fort which was in South Carolina and that was Confederate Territory. No one died at Fort Sumter, but a bloody war had started.

    The Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest battle in the Civil War, has started. Over 26,000 soldiers died, are wounded, or are missing in action in this one-day battle. The battle ends in a draw, but stops General Robert E. Lee's invasion of Maryland.

    General Ulysses S. Grant takes control of the whole Mississippi River after the long siege of Vicksburg. Now that the Union has taken control of the Mississippi River the Confederacy is cut in two.

    This was the first stage to capturing the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. Ordered by Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant, the Army of the Potomac crossed the Rapidan River to fight the Northern Virginia Army.
