Creation of League of Nations
The League of Nations was assembled after WW1 to prevent and ensure that war never broke out again. The significance of this event was that it would later be a stepping stone for the UN.
It was also used as a way to control soviet, germany, Italian, and Japanese aggression. -
Hitler's Program of Rearmament
Hitler had begun the process of rebuilding Germanies armies and began construction of aircrafts. This move had gone against the Treaty of Versailles the league of nations had no power to deal with it. This is significant because Germany was regaining their strength for war. -
Japanese Invasion of Manchuria
Japan was in need of more arable land so they set their eyes out on Manchuria and invaded it after a bombing of Japanese rail tracks, this led to the takeover of Manchuria (renamed to manchkuo later on). Significance of this was that Japan gained land to support its growing population and that Japan is very willing to go to the extent of taking over other nations. -
The Invasion of Abyssinia
The Italians were out to gain more territory for Italy and to encurage a more facist Italy. Significance of this was that is left a blow to the league of nations and it showed that the league could not control any of its members. -
The Reoccupation of the Rhineland
Hitler wanted to rebuild Germany so he went against the Treaty of Versaillies and sent 32,000 troops to occupy Rhineland. This was significant because it was feeding Hitler's ultra-nationalism ways. France was dealing with to many other issues at the time to contain Germany. -
The Spanish Civil War
17 july 1936-1 april 1939
The battle was between the Republic Spain and the nationalists led by Francisco Franco. This was significant because Francisco would end up victorious and rule for 36years. During this battle Italy and Nazi Germany were able to gain combat experience during this battle. -
Anschluss With Austria
Hitler went to achieve his goals of uniting all german speaking people and to create a larger nation(this goal was written in Hitler's book " Mein Kampf".
Hitler had forced Chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg in agreeing to Hitlers demands of stationing German troops in Austria.
This is significant because Hitler has finally united Germany and their strength increased. -
The Munich Conference
The Munich Agreement was an agreement between Hitler and the other Europian powers. In this agreement, France and Britan tried to appease Hitler by granting him Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia with a higher German population. The significance of this was that after gaining the land, Czechoslovakia had felt betrayed, France and Brittan had made themselves look weak. -
Invasion of the Rest of Czechoslovakia
Hitler seeked more power and with Czechoslovakia being weak, he went and occupied the rest of the land until the end of the war. Now with Czechoslovakia taken over, Hitler had turned his gaze toward Poland that was now on its own, this will lead to the 2nd World War. -
The Nazi-Soviet Pact
Hitler wanted to avoid a repeat of the past of a 2 front war. With the knowledge that if Germany were to attack Poland, Britan and France would intervene, Hitler made a Non-aggression Pact with the soviets. This was significant because Hitler was now able to focus his forces to the west, he now capable of defeating France and Britan; that was till Hitler would later break the pact in 1941. -
The Invasion of Poland
Hitler wanted to redeem former German lands that was now owned by Poland. During the pact with the soviets, Poland was split in 2. France and Britan had finally had enough and declared war. This was the start of WWll.
