THE MAYFLOWER SAIL.
A group of 102 pilgrims sailed from England to the called ``new world´´, America, on the ship the Mayflower. The ship lasted 65 to across the Atlantic Ocean, because there were storms and water entered to the ship. But the pilgrims decided to continue because they wanted religious and political freedom. -
THEY ARRIVED TO THE NEW WORLD.
The pilgrims saw land in the distance. They were very excited because their journey was near the end. Finally, the ship reached land and some people left to explore the area. They saw a good place and they built smalls house and had land to grow vegetables and keep their animals. They created the first village, called Plymouth. -
THE AMERICAN NATIVES
The pilgrims met a Native American for the first time and he introduced them to his tribe. The Natives American taught the pilgrims how to grow corn, beans and pumpkins. -
THE INDEPENDENCE
The colonies declared independence from Great Britain. Their leaders published the Declaration of Independence on this day. Then the fight started. The colonist, led by George Washington, fought many long, difficult battles. -
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
They defeated the british and signed the Treaty of Paris. They called their new nation the United States of America. -
LOUISIANA PURCHASE AGREEMENT
The French Emperor Napoleon offered to sell the land to the USA for the double size of the country, $15 million. Thomas Jefferson, the president, accepted the offer and signed the Louisiana Purchase Agreement. People started to move west. -
INDIAN TERRITORY
As thee new world expanded , the Native American population began to suffer because their land and traditions were in danger. In 1830s, the US Government created the first Indian territory. They forced more than 15000 Cherokee people to leave their homes and walk 1600 kilometres to their new territory. Around 4000 Cherokee people died on the journey that they called the ``Trail of Tears´´. -
THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1860)
The people in the north lived in towns and wanted to abolish slavery. But in the south, they lived on plantations and own slaves. The plantations owners wanted to keep their slaves. They wanted to leave the Union and had their own nation, called the Confederate States of America. But Lincoln, the new president, wanted to end slavery and he wanted to keep the country together. -
AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1861)
In this year the south had their Confederacy, with 11 states, and Richmond (Virginia), was the capital. They thought they were a different nation from the Union in the north. Confederate soldiers attacked a Union fort called Fort Sumter, starting the war. -
AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1864)
Thousand of people were dead. Both the people in the north and the south were suffering. The war didn´t can continue for long because the Confederates had fewer soldiers than the Union. -
AMERICAN CIVIL WAR (1865)
General Robert E.Lee, the Confederate army leader, surrendered to General Ulysses Grant, the Union army leader. It was the end of the war. But more than 600000 Americans were dead. The slaves were free and the country was one nation.
