The United Nations was created
United Nations was established after its predecessor, The League of Nations was eliminated. This organization is the second international organization to be created with the objective to try to maintain peace and protect human rights, this are just some of their goals. The UN headquarter offices is located in New York city, the UN has other offices in countries like Geneva and Vienna. -
Creation of the UN
United Nations was created in October 24, 1945. This was the second organisation to have the purpose of preventing the war. It is the processor of the league of Nations after it failed to protect the world for WWII. The UN headquarters are located in New York City but the UN also has offices in Vienna, Geneva and Nairobi. -
UN adopts its flag
The UN flag is adopted and is still present to date. This flag contains a map of the world in centered on the North Pole. Branches of the olive tree are also represented representing prosperity and security. -
Indonesian Independence and one of the First UN intervention.
1947-1949: The Security council of the UN orders a cease of fire between Indonesia and the Dutch. This eventually led to Indonesian independence after they defeated their colonizers. -

The Treaty of Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is signed. 189 countries sign the treaty of NPT to forbid nuclear weapons. Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, India still need to sign this treaty. -

Smallpox is finally eradicated and the world no longer has to worry about it. -
Tragedy strikes the UN
Suicide attack on the UN headquarters leaving Sergio Vieira de Mello dead. Sergio was the top UN special envoy in Iraq.
