Due to an increased desire for oil, many European countries supported the coup of 1921. After the coup, Pahlavi became prime minister and gained national assembly support. He would legally obtain the throne after being declared shah by the Constituent Assembly, creating the Pahlavi dynasty. -
Mohammed Reza Shah Asceds the Throne
After denying the request to let German residents expel from Iran, Reza Shah was forced to abdicate. After this, his son takes the throne and becomes the new shah of Iran. His reign would last until about 1979 when the Revolution would occur. -

Mohammad Reza Shah abolishes the two political parties in Iran. Under the new party, Rastakhiz Party of People of Iran, there were new forms of control. The party led by the Shah censored, arrested, and tortured citizens and political prisoners. -

Ruhollah Khomeini Comes to Power
Having led the revolution, Ruhollah Khomeini was well-liked and praised by many of the citizens. After the revolution, he declared Iran to be the Islamic Republic. Under his rule, new conservative laws and restrictions would be set in place such as the loss of women's rights and dress codes being enforced. -
Iran's Armed Forces Declare Neutrality
In an attempt to control what Mohammad Reza Shah thought to be people who were anti-regime or communist, he increased the amount of control on citizens. The further protest would lead to the country's armed forces to get involved and open fire on the demonstrators. This would only attract more and push the revolution until the monarchy's rule would be dissolved.
