    Starting in the 1980s, portable phones were like a small-scale cell phone. These phones were a big improvement from the push-button phone.

    These phones were the first commercially available mobile phones. In the year 1973, Martin Cooper made the first cell phone call with a predecessor of this beat.

    This phone was the first successful flip phone. It was also, in some ways, the first successful consumer cell phone. Motorola eventually sold 60 million StarTACs.
