    The World Wide Web is the main tool billions use to interact on the Internet. It is identified by URLs, interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. It has basically changed the world as we know it.
  • Amazon was launched

    Founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, Amazon is the U. S.' largest online retailer.
  • Ebay was founded

    eBay was founded in 1955 by Pierre Omidyar, and is the largest consumer to consumer & business to consumer company on the internet. It is a multi-billion dollar company that does business in over 30 countries.
  • AOL Instant Messenger launched

    A real time chat service that allows users to communicate via the computer.
  • Google launched

    Google originated from 2 Stanford students- Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were working on the World Wide Web trying to figure out what web pages to link to the search page.
  • Apple Itunes Launched

    Developed by Apple, Itunes can be used to play, download, and organize music, video, books, tv, and movies.
  • Wikipedia

    Wikipedia, referred to as the peoples' encyclopedia, is launched.
  • Myspace was launched

    MySpace was the pre-cursor to Facebook. It is a social networking website offering a network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music, and videos.
  • Skype was launched

    Skype is a software app that allows a user to make video chats, voice calls from computers, tablets, and mobile devices via the Internet. Users can also send instant messages, exchange files and images, and send video messages.
  • Facebook launched

    Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes as a social networking site. Users are allowed to create a profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, post status updates, share photos/videos and receive notifications, as well as many other things.

    Youtube was founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, and is a video sharing website. Available for viewing are: video clips, TV clips, music videos, video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos.
  • Twitter was launched

    Originiated by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass, Twitter is a social networking platform that allows users to send short messages called tweets. It is similiar to Facebook, however, these messages are limited to 140 characters.
  • Wikileaks was founded

    Wikileaks was founded in 2006 by Jullian Assange. The site is known for leaking secret U. S. information to the public. Assange refers to it as protecting whistleblowers from the repercussions of emailing sensitive documents and bringing the truth to light.
  • Foursquare was launched

    Created by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, Foursquare is a social network site in which users can share/update their exact location using a process called "Check-in".
  • Pinterest was launched

    Pinterest is a photo sharing website where users can search and find photos that they are interested in, and then "pin it" to their board, on their own personalized page. This usually reflects things that they are interested in trying or making-project-wise. It was originally created by Ben Silbermann, Evan Sharp and Paul Sciarra.
  • Instagram was launched

    Instgram is a mobile sharing site thart allows users to take picures and post them across multiple mobile sharing sites such as: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Flckr. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and currently has over million users.
