Bertie the Brain
In 1950, Canadian engineer, Josef Kates, built Bertie the brain. He built this for the 1950 Canadian National Exhibition. On the 13 foot tall computer, it allowed people to play tic tac toe against AI. -
Tennis for two
In 1958, William Higinbotham created the game "Tennis for two". This was played using an analog computer and oscilloscope. -
Spacewar!
In 1962, the game spacewar was created. Spacewar was created by Massachusetts Institute of Technology student Steve Russell. -
First video game console
In 1972, the first video game console was created. The console was the Magnavox Odyssey, which was led by Ralph Baer at Sanders Associates. -
The Atari 2600
The Atari 2600 which is a video computer system, was released in 1977. The console had joysticks, and interchangeable game cartridges. -
Video game crash
In 1983, The United States experienced a video game crash. The crash was due to many things such as, too many games which were mostly horrible quality, competition between computer gaming. Unfortunately, the crash led to a lot of companies going bankrupt. -
NES
In 1985, 2 years after the crash, Japan introduced the Nintendo Entertainment System to the United States. The NES was much better, it had improved graphics, colours, sound, etc. -
Saturn system
In 1955, Sega released the first 32 bit console in North America, which was the Saturn system. Rather then games being played on cartridges, they were played on CDS. They did this in order to beat Sony.
