In August of 1997 in Scotts Valley, California, Netflix was created by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings. -
Began offering DVD rentals and sales.

- Netflix introduces subscription model “Netflix Marquee” which allows users to rent up to four DVD’s at a time for $15.95 per month without late fees.

Netflix worked out revenue sharing deals signed with Warner Brothers and Columbia film studios. -
Expanding the Company
A partnership with Best Buy gives exposure in the chain’s 1,800 stores -
Netflix on Nasdaq
-Netflix makes its initial public offering (IPO on Nasdaq under the ticker “NFLX” with 600,000 members in the US.) -Introduces “Netflix Life” a $13.95 per month plan for two discs at a time -
First Million!
In 2003, Netflix gained their first million subscribers and obtained 15,000 DVD titles. -
Looks like they've got some competition!
In 2004, Netflix made the mistake of raising its plan to $21.95 for 3 DVD's, but as competition heightened, Netflix reducesd it's plan to $17.99 (Competition = Amazon and Blockbuster) -

2007 was a big year for Netflix. They introduced video streaming to all compatable devices. -
