    The Flapper look came into fashion and with it came cosmetics: Dark kohl eyes,Red lipstick, Red nail polish and it was fashionable for women to use bleach to keep their skin a pale milky white – in otherwords a good palette for cosmetics!

    1930s Makeup Techniques – The Platinum Blonde Look. Excerpt from Makeup & Beauty – 1930s Makeup guides The “platinum blonde” is an artificial blonde. She is the delicate type and her hair, through treatment, has a bluish white color that Hollywood stars have made famous.
  • 1940'S

    1940'S
    Natural beauties (natural with "a little support") were the ideal of the forties.
    Face powder was used to match the skin or to gave a nice rosy glow. To get this effect a slightly darker warmish foundation was used and then powdered over with a powder that was lighter than normal skin.

    To get a natural rosy look popular rouge colors were red with pinkish undertones, bright pinks with fuchsia undertones and bright roses.

    Pastels ruled in this decade, pale pinks, greens, blues and yellows, and if ever there was a color that showcased an era, it was the color pink for the 1950s. Audrey Hepburn once claimed that she ‘ believed in pink ! ‘ Peaches and cream and pink hues all call to mind the 1950s, both in feminine decor, dress and make-up rouge.

    with the mod look (“modernist”) since the late fifties, and new stores The youth had a big influence on fashion. For the first time since the war, the young had disposable income to hand and it was spent on looking stylish.
    London had led the way catering to the fashion tastes of the younger generation popped up all over.
  • 1970's

    1970's
    Women loved using white eyeliner in the 1970's as well as black. If using black, remember to apply it as you would any eyeliner, but smudge it for a smoky effect. Also, apply it beneath the bottom lashes as well.
    Remember, lots of shimmer! Blue, green, brown, the eyeshadows were all about shimmery effect. There were eye shadows that claimed to have crushed fish scales in them to really make them shine. The eyeshadow was used underneath the lashes as well as on top of the eyelid.

    The 80’s saw a dramatic change from previous decades where women had kept makeup natural and light and instead the new order of the day was to pile makeup on and experiment with bold, bright colours.

    Brown lipstick, even the reds were brown based.Heavy colours.Black culottes. Th emain theme of the 90’s was brown, and almost all makeup supplied would be brown to appeal to the wearer.

    2000's
    Although mineral makeup has been around since the '70s, it really exploded onto the scene in this decade. This trend is great because the makeup offers just as much coverage as its liquid counterpart, but it is much gentler and can be worn by pretty much anyone. Another plus is that the highly pigmented product lasts for a long time, so you can get more out of your money

    With a rise in the rates of skin cancer, spray tan became a great alternative to fake baking. When applied correctly, spray tan can add a natural glow to any skin color. Unfortunately, a lot of people chose to overdo it with the wrong color for them, and they ended up looking more like carrots than beach goddesses.
