Sieur de La Salle
Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle leads an expedition into Illinois. He was a French explorer known as Robert or Sieur de La Salle. He Claimed the entire Mississippi River Valley for France. Later starting the French and Indian War. -

Jean-Baptiste Pointe de Sable settled in a area which is now Chicago. De Sable was an African American trader. He was the first non-Native American to settle in what is now Chicago. He established a major trading post there. -
