How it all started
He bet his friends that when a horse is running full speed, at one point all four hoofs are off the ground. They bet 25,000 dollars. They took several pictures of the horse and found out, if you look at them really fast, it's kind of like a flip book. It made the horse look like it was actually running. -
Charlie Chapman
He was a major actor in the silent film era. He starred in "The Kid" which was his first film to excced an hour. HE was also a film producer. He was also a comic genious. -
Mary Pickford
she was known as "America's sweetheart". She was the cofounder of some films. People would pay lots of oney just to see her in theatres. -
The Kinetoscope Parlor
This was a series of pictures moving really fast for "an audience of one". You would look througha single peephole and for those who paid, they got to watch. -
Major Wilson's last stand
One of the first movies ever made. British silent war film. It was sold for 3 dollars. -
The start of short films
It was created by the Lumiere Brothers and you'd pay money to see a 30-60 second long "movie". they'd charge 1 franc. Which is 1 dollar in the U.S. The first one that was ever made was of just a train. -
The first actual film
The first actual film to last more than 30 seconds is called "The Great Train Robbery". It was 12 minutes long, with 18 frames, and was the first film to show a whole story. It was also a narrarated movie. -
The creation of MPPC
It was created by Thomas edison. They owned all their actors and all the equipment. YOu couldnt make your own movies and if you tried, they would raid independant studios, equipment would be smashed and employees would be threatened. -
Where films were shot
The film business originated on the east side of The United States but got moved to southern California. One reason because of most films were shot ouside and the weather didnt cooperate. Another because they were much further away from (MPPC) control. -
The making of Nickleodeon
Vaudevill was a little theatre that would shoe 30 second films and as the 1900s grew, it turned into Nickleodeon. They called it Nickelodeon because you'd only pay one Nickle to see the short films. They would use a live orchestra and people to make sound effects just to add
"spice". -
Unpaid actors
They didnt list the names of their actors because they thought they'd become famous, then demand more money. Thomas Edison ran this whole thing. Also the rest of MPPC.
