    Claude Chappe invented the first long-distance semaphore (visual or optical) telegraph line in 1793 from Paris to Lille. These purpose-built stone towers with Chappe's two signal arms on top came later.

    Morse Code
    Samuel Morse invents Morse code that assigned a set of dots and dashes to each letter of the English alphabet and allowed for the simple transmission of complex messages across telegraph lines. For instance, dash is equal to three dots.
    AD- It is still used and studied.
    DIS- It was used in the war.

    Samuel Morse invents the first long distance electric telegraph line. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations.
    AD- It didn't take long as before to get the information.
    DIS- It was used in the war.

    Alexander Bain patents the first fax machine. Bain worked on an experimental facsimile machine in 1843 to 1846.
