Mr. Wrigley came to Chicago in the Spring of 1891. He started off selling soap, and offered free baking soda as an insentive. However, he switched to the baking soda business because he observed it to be more popular than soap, He then started selling baking soda, and offering free chewing gum. He for the last time switched his business because of how popular the chewing gum got. Later, Mr. Wrigley will own one of the most popular chewing gum brands. -

Juicy Fruit is Launched
On May 1st, 1893 Juicy fruit was launched. It was a huge success, and sold immediately. There was a very stressful demand for this gum, and it was being manufactured very quickly to satisfy the peolple. -
Blibber Blubber Gum
On August 22nd, in 1906, Frank Fleer invents "Blibber Bubber" gum. However, the gum was never marketed, It had a similar texture to silly putty. It was very brittle, and when you blow a bubble, the gum woulkd splatter instead of retract, and snap back. This was the result of too low surface tension, and elasticity. -

On April 13th, 1914, the first mint gum was created. Henry Fleer and William Wrigley added mint and fruit extracts tom a chicle-based chewing gum and Wrigley's Doublemint was created. -
The Doublemint Twins
The Doublemint Twins were introduced because Doublemin came out with two flavors of mint. They thought how it would be a good idea to advertise with twins because essentially, the pacls of gum were twins. The packaging was the same but just the flavors were different, however they were both flavors of mint. -

Dubble Bubble
In 1928, Walter Diemer, an accountant, and also an emloyee at the Frank h. Fleer Company, improved the formula for bubble gum. He did this by adding laytex to the formula. The gum will no longer splatter when a bubble is blown. Instead, it will snap back and be more flexible. It was soon called Dubble Bubble, and he colored it pink. The big question is.. Why pink? The truth of the matter is that there was no particular reason for pink, Pink was the only food coloring color that he had. -
