The History Of Atoms

  • 400 BCE

    Democritus

    Democritus
Democritus was born in 400 BC he discovered that atoms were basically a building block. He thought that atoms were uncuttable or un-destroyable and they were surrounded by a large empty space.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
John dalton was born on September 5th of 1776. In 1803 he had a theory that everything was composed/made up of atoms. He came of with this theory because matter is made up of atoms. They believed that atoms were invisible and indestructible but it is just not visible to the human eye.
  • Dmitri Mendeleev

    Dmitri Mendeleev
Dmitri Mendeleev was born in 1834. Dmitri discovered that the physical and chemical properties of atoms were related to periodic mass, Which he then created the periodic table. When creating it he put elements that had similar periodic mass in sections to organize the periodic table
  • Eugen Goldstien

    Eugen Goldstien
Eugen Goldstien was born in 1850. Eugen was a very big contribution to the discover of the cathode rays. He discovered the protons in the cathode rays by doing experiments with them. For example when the cathode rays would bounce off each other it didn't put a negative charge out it made a positive charge.
  • J.J Thomson

    J.J Thomson
J.J Thomson was born December 18th 1856 and lived until August 30th 1940. During this time in 1897 J.J was alive he started off his journey when he was experimenting with a Cathode ray tool. While he was experimenting with that he learned that atoms had a negative charge, and then realized that the model of atoms didn't have a negative or positive charge for atoms.
  • Max Planck

    Max Planck
Max Planck was born in 1858. He then was given the Nobel prize in 1918, which then lead to atomic subatomic process.
  • Robert Millikan

    Robert Millikan
Robert Millikan was born in 1868. He did a oil drop experiment that helped figure out the charge of electrons. He also started to figure out the structure of the atom
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford was born on August 30th of 1871 and lived until October 19th 1937. In 1911 he discovered that there is a charged nucleus around a large empty space in the atom which are circled by smaller electrons.
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr was born in 1885. During his life he discovered a hydrogen atom based on the quantum theory. He then figured out that sense the electrons move around the nucleus, they needed to travel in patterns and then they were able to move from one to another at only low charges
  • Erwin Schrodinger

    Erwin Schrodinger
Erwin was born in 1887. Erwin used the thought of the particles in waves and then created a wave equation that accurately calculated the levels of energy in protons
  • James Chadwick

    James Chadwick
James Chadwick was born in 1891 and what discovery he is most known for is the neutron. he discovered the neutron in 1932, he discovered that the neutron has no electric current but has a positive current. After he discovered the current in the neutrons it lead to the discovery of the Atomic Bomb
  • Werner Heisenberg

    Werner Heisenberg
Werner was born in 1901. He helped with the atom theory by creating quantum mechanics and finding the uncertain Principle.
