The Magic Lantern
This invention was one of the first ever projectors. But this one had a hard time playing regular pieces of film. It could play pictures and make them move which started animation. Which made people very interested in different ways to animate. -
The Thaumatrope
The Thaumatrope was a little circle attached to two pieces of string. Each side of the circle had a image on it. When the string was pulled it would move so fast it would look like both images were one. kinda like a pretty crude form of animation. -
The Phenakitoscope
After the the thaumatrope people wanted to see images move like something that was only in dreams. That idea led to the Phenakitoscope. the Phenakitoscope was a object with spinning disc and reflective mirrors. once spun fast enough it makes it look like the images on the spinning disc were moving. -
The Zoetrope
only a couple of years after the phenakitoscope people wanted something bigger to look at. This lead to the invention of the Zoetrope. The Zoetrope was a large disc like object that needed to be spun fast to see a mostly smooth moving image. -
The Flipbook
people who couldn't afford the nice new mechanics for small and short animations had to come up with something else. most people didn't really like drawing back then but as soon as the invention of the flip book came out people started to go crazy for drawing and making there own animated shorts.This invention led to the rise in popularity of animation and changed the world. -
The Movieola
The Movieola is a lot like the zoetrope in the way that you look into a hole. But this one has a mirror inside to reflect the images on the walls inside. It was also a way to watch a short movie. -
Gertie the Dinosaur
This is said to be the first ever cartoon character. This character was a dinosaur that is a brontosaurs. Most people thought it was a dumb idea but kids loved it. -
Felix the Cat
This was the first ever very popular animated character. This character was mostly about singing and dancing.
once this came up a lot of companies saw they can get a lot of money with animation. -
Steamboat Willie
Steamboat Willie was one of the first animations made by Disney. For animators of that time it was a great achievement in animation. Most people really liked this character. -
The Golden Age
This was when animation was most popular and when Disney made a lot of money. This was the first time the looney toons were mentioned and used. Animations were the most popular thing in that time. -
The Television Era
During this era animation went through the roof with new shows. shows like the flint stones and dexters lab. Kids saw this as the best time to be alive. -
The Modern America Era
This is where cgi was being used the most. Pixar was the company that just started using it and was getting shorts set up for people to watch. This is also around the time Pixar made it's first hit "Toy Story".
