Zoetrope
Invented by William George Horner the zoetrope operates on the same principle as the phenakistoscope. The first flip book was made by John Barnes Linnett. A flip book is just a book sthat has a series of images printed near the edge. A viewer bends the pages back and then flips them, creating a moving image -
Phenakistoscope invented
The Phenakistoscope created the first moving animation, created by spinnng a wheel with different pictures around the circumfrence. the pictures look like their moving because they are moving to fast for the eye to see -
Praxinoscope
This device was a more sophisticated version of the Zoetrope. It used the same basic principals but used mirorrs to reflect the imagersther than slits to look through. -
Kinetoscope
invented by Thomas Edison- projected a 50ft length of film in approximately 13 seconds. -
First animated Film
J. Stuart Blackton made the first animated film "Humorous phases of funny faces." He drew comical faces on a blackboard and filmed them. He would stop the film, erase one face to draw another, and then film the newly drawn face. -
