Slaves Gained Control of a Third of Saint-Domingue
Toussaint turned the slaves into a disciplined army to withstand the French troops attacks. -
British, Spanish, Slaves led by Toussaint and French Fought for Control of Saint-Domingue
The Spanish Invaded Saint-Domingue and supplied Toussaint's forces with resources.
They supported Toussaint's ideals because they wanted the French to be weak.
Toussaint became an officer of the Spanish Military.
The British then also invaded Saint-Domingue as they were at war with the French before. -
The Free Slaves Decree
The French responded to the attacks by issuing a decree to free the slaves.
Toussaint then switched allegiances to the French
The Slaves in the French Caribbean were free. -
Toussaint Lead's Saint-Domingue to Independence
The French were still at war with the English and Spanish.
From 1795-1802 Toussaint directed the Colony towards independence using his Politician and Military General skills.
Slavery ended but Plantation systems continued with pay. -

Napoleon's Brother, Leclerc traveled to the Island and eventually put Toussaint in jail. -

Toussaint eventually died in Prison.
The Haitians started to fight back once their guns were taken.
Disease in Saint-Domingue killed off thousands of French Soldiers (Including Leclerc) which aided the Haitians in the war.
Napoleon then gave up and retreated 8000 of 40,000 soldiers away from Saint-Domingue -

Dessalines, who defeated the French, Declared Saint-Domingue Independent and renamed it Haiti.
