The hair dryer and its shocking evolution

  • First one

    First one
The first electric hairdryer was created in France by hairdresser Alexandre Godefoy, who was inspired by a vacuum cleaner. The centrifugal air pump created a vacuum that sucked in dust, and the movement of the motor heated the gases inside. What Alexandre did was remove the tube from the inlet and place it where the hot air came out, and thus the first version of the hairdryer was born. Due to its large size, this tool was only found in beauty salons, and it was also very noisy and heavy.

American Gabriel Kazanjian created the first patent for a portable hairdryer for use at home. The idea was wonderful and useful, however, its structure was very heavy and difficult to handle. In addition, they were dangerous to use, since they short-circuited when in contact with water, so it was discontinued.

    1928
The first hair dryers emerged, consisting of tubes connected to a coil, which only generated between 100 and 150 watts of heat (currently they consist of 2,000 watts).

    1930-1940
The helmet dryer emerged, which worked practically the same as the previous ones, except that by enclosing the air, the concentration and direction towards the main point, which is the head, was improved; this year they already generated 250 watts of heat.

    1960-1970
With the innovation of technology and the creativity of manufacturers, it was possible to design safer, more powerful hand dryers made of lightweight materials that were resistant to water and did not burn. They were lightweight and easy to transport, and electric motors were invented that reduced energy by generating up to 600 watts.

At the beginning of the 21st century, there were already a variety of brands offering these high-end, ergonomic, energy-efficient and quieter tools. They are less damaging to the hair, and are designed with tourmaline and ceramic. Dryers with ionic technology emerged with a technology that charges the hot flow with negative ions that break down water molecules on wet hair, making them smaller and promoting their absorption, both by the scalp and the hair fiber, hydrating them.
