The Embargo Act was an attempt by Thomas Jefferson and Congress to punish France and Britian for interferring with American trade. Ships were not allowed to leave foriegn ports. This was to try to make France and Britian respect Americas neutrality. However it backfired terribly. The US's econoomy went downhill, Britian didnt seem to be affected and supported France. The merchants and trader after a while started losing money. It was bad until it was finally taken away. -
War of 1812
The war of 1812 was a war between the United States and Great Britian. The US was angered by Britian and thier kidnapping of US sailors. It ended with the Treaty of Ghent. -

This treaty ended the batlle of 1812. After the glorious victory at Plattsburg the British and Americans decided to call it even.The treaty gave all conquered land was to be givin back and allowed colonaztion betond US boundaries. -

The Monroe Doctrine states the Eurapeons could not interfere with US and its neigboring countries or it would be seen as agression.
