    Mangal Pandey is arrested
    He was the first soldier to protest against the greased cartridges. He was a sepoy of the 5th Company of the 34th Native Infantry Regiment, stationed at Barrackpore. He was arrested and hanged on 8th April for shooting at his British officer and asking others to join him.

    Beginning of the Revolt at Meerut
    The hanging of Mangal Pandey caused great unrest among the soldiers all over India. 85 sepoys of the 3rd Bengal Light Cavalry at Meeurt refused to use the cartidges.
    On 10 May, they raised the banner of Revolt. They killed the British officers and released the imprisoned sepoys. The group then set off for Delhi. The sepoys stationed here joined them too.
