Pilip IV persuades the college of cardnials to choose a nes french pope. they chose Clemet V who moved from Rome to Avignon. the move weakend the church. -

Pope Gregory XI died
After Gregory XI died the college of Cardinals wnet to Rome to pick a different pope. they chose Urban VI. they regretted there choice and had to pick a second pope named Robert. He took the name clemet VII. because the 2 popes lived in different areas the curch divided. -
End of the Great Schism
The council of constance chose a single pope. that made three popes so they had to make all the popes resign. after they did they chose one pope which ended the Great Schism.
