    Nick Carraway moves to West Egg
    This is the start of The Great Gatsby. Nick, the main character moves to an island off of Long Island, NY, called West Egg. He came from Chicago. This is when we meet Nick for the first time and learn a bit about him and his backround.

  • Dinner with the Buchanans

    Nick drives over to East Egg, where he has dinner with Tom and Daisy Buchanan and another lady. This is Jordan Baker, a professional golfer. Daisy is Nick's second cousin once removed and Tom and Nick both went to Yale together. During dinner, the telephone rings. Jordan tells Nick that Tom has "a woman" in New York. Back home, Nick sees his neighbor, Mr. Gatsby, acting rather strange outside. He seems to be longing for a green light on a faraway dock. Gatsby quickly disappears.
  • NYC with Myrtle Wilson

    NYC with Myrtle Wilson
    Tom takes Nick into the Valley of Ashes, which is the area between East and West Egg. There they meet Myrtle Wilson, Tom's mistress. The three of them go into New York City and to an apartment. Myrtle invites a couple, the McKees, that live in the apartment and her sister Catherine. They spend the afternoon and evening together, although Nick gets himself drunk and doesn't feel like he fits in. At the end of the night, Tom breaks Myrtle's nose because Myrtle was chanting Daisy's name.

    Nick is invited to a party by his next-door neighbor, Mr. Gatsby. Gatsby always has huge parties. At the party, Nick is trying to find Gatsby, but can't. Jordan Baker is there and stays with Nick for a while. The people at this party are acting ridiculous. NIck sits down at a table with a man who turns out to be Gatsby. This is the first time we meet Mr. Gatsby. Nick begins to have feelings for Jordan Baker at this party.

    Lunch with Gatsby and his Backstory
    Gatsby takes Nick out to lunch in NYC. Gatsby tells Nick a little about himself. They have lunch with a man named Meyer Wolfsheim. He has known Gatsby for a while and is a bit sketchy. Nick sees Tom Buchanan at the restaurant and tries to introduce Gatsby, but Gatsby quickly dissapears. Later, Jordan Baker tells Nick that Gatsby has been in love with Daisy for 5 years. This is what Gatsby told Jordan at his party. Gatsby wants Nick to invite Daisy and Gatsby over to Nick's house for tea.
  • Daisy and Gatsby are Reunited

    Daisy comes over to Nick's house for tea. Gatsby is already there, but sneaks out so that it looks like he just arrived. Gatsby is very nervous. The first hour or so is extremely awkward. However, soon Daisy and Gatsby warm up to each other again. Gatsby takes Daisy and Nick back to his house and gives them a tour. Here, we learn more about Gatsby's backround; we hear about Dan Cody. As Nick makes to leave, Daisy and Gatsby seem not to notice. The two lovers are reunited at last.

    Going to the Plaza
    Jordan Baker, Nick, and Gatsby go over to the Buchanans' house on the hottest day of the year. They decide to go to the Plaza Hotel that afternoon. Tom is starting to suspect Daisy and Gatsby's relationship. On the drive over, Tom stops at a gas station. George Wilson, who is Tom's mistress' husband, works here. Tom is driving Gatsby's car and tells George it's his. George is sick and says he's moving.Nick knows he found out his wife is seeing someone. Tom's wife and mistress are slipping away.
  • The Plaza

    The group of five get a room at The Plaza.It is still extrememly hot. In the room, Gatsby and Tom argue over Daisy. Daisy says she never loved Tom. Later, though, she said she loved Tom and loved Gatsby too. Tom had investigated Gatsby and Gatsby was defending himself against accusations that hadn't been made. In the end, Tom sent Daisy and Gatsby home in his car, feeling victourious. The others will follow. NIck remembers it's his birthday; he is 30.

    After the Plaza
    Nick, Jordan, and Tom, while driving home, came across an accident. Myrtle Wilson was hit by a car and killed. George Wilson said it was a yellow car. Tom tells George that the car he said was his earlier really wasn't. At the Buchanan's house, Nick sees Gatsby hiding. Gatsby tells Nick that Daisy was driving the car that killed Myrtle. In the house, Nick sees Dasiy and Tom talking quietly. Their relationship is still intact. Gatsby stays at the house to see if Daisy leaves. Nick goes home.
  • The End of Jay Gatsby

    The next day, Nick had breakfast at Gatsby's house. Gatsby finishes telling Nick about himself, how he fell in love with Daisy, and how he lost her. She didn't call for him last night. Nick leaves for work while Gatsby goes to swim in his pool for the last time this summer. Meanwhile, George Wilson now knows that Myrtle ran out to the car because she thought Tom would be in it. He goes to Tom, who says it is Gatsby's car. George shoots Gatsby in the pool, then himself.
  • Mr. Gatsby's Funeral

    Mr. Gatsby's Funeral
    Nick was on his way home, but stopped at Gatsby's house when he had been shot. He was too late. Gatsby's last words were to ask Nick to get some people to come to his funeral. However, all the people that came to his parties, all his friends- hardly any of them actually came. The only people at the funeral were Nick, Gatsby's father, and Owl-Eyes, a frequent guest at Gatsby's parties. The funeral took place on a rainy day. Jay Gatsby is dead.

    Nick Carraway Leaves West Egg
    Jordan and Nick officially break up. He has no more real purpose in the east. He misses Chicago. Nick is homesick. On his last night, Nick reflects on his wild summer in the East. He realizes Gatsby was just too caught up in his imagination. It led to his demise. Nick will always remember this summer and Gatsby, who Nick now considers great.
