The Great Gatsby

  • Chapter 1

    The narrator known as Nick is introduced to the readers
    Nick visits Daisy & Tom in East Egg
    Nick lives in West Egg next to Gatsby who he has not met yet but spots outside his mansion
    There's a whole argument during dinner at with Tom, Daisy and Jordan because of Tom's lady friend who calls
    Nick also meets Jordan, Daisy's friend, who then informs Nick of Tom's mistress
  • Chapter 2

    Tom makes Nick go on a trip with him where Nick then meets Myrtle who is Tom's mistress and George's wife
    Tom and Nick go to a party where Nick meets some new people (Tom's friends)
    Tom and Myrtle get into an argument and then Tom punches Myrtle and breaks her nose
    The readers learn a little more about how Nick interacts with people and how he let's things happen without judging
    Also the readers learn about how Tom is as a person
  • Chapter 3

    For the first time Nick is personally invited to Gatsby's party
    Nick wonders around the party and meets Owl Eyed Man who was drunk in Gatsby's library which was filled with many real books
    Nick meets Gatsby at a table where he has a conversation with a young man around his own age who turns out to be Gatsby
    Owl Eyed Man is too drunk and crashes his car, he's so drunk he doesn't really think or care about it and just leaves it
  • Chapter 4

    Gatsby
    The readers are given more background information on Gatsby and Daisy and how their relationship was before
    Nick meets Wolfsheim the Mobster who fixed the 1919 World Series
    Learn about Gatsby's 'The American Dream'
  • Chapter 5

    Gatsby finally gets what he's been waiting for years
    Gatsby meets up with Daisy and Nick where he then shows off his wealth to Daisy
    Daisy is overwhelmed by Gatsby riches and begins to cry for what what could've been hers
    Readers are informed how the green light in Daisy's dock represents hope and a star to Gatsby
    Once Gatsby has Daisy, he realizes his dream is not complete
  • Chapter 6

    Learn about the real Jay Gatz and his background story
    Also learn about Dan Cody and how he taught Gatsby everything he knows and lives with
    Gatsby talks about how he wants to recreate the past and how things were in the past
    Gatsby wants Daisy to tell Tom she never loved him to make Gatsby's dream complete
  • Chapter 7

    Gatsby discovers Daisy's child with Tom
    George discovers Myrtle has been up to something and locks her in the apartment
    Gatsby believes Daisy's relationship with Tom was just a filler because she couldn't wait for him
    On the way home Gatsby's car structs Myrtle on the road and she dies
    Tom is overwhelmed when finding out Myrtle is dead and then blames everything on Gatsby
    Tom and Daisy talk at home and Gatsby sits at the window just inn case Tom mistreats her
  • Chapter 8

    Gatsby tells Nick the whole truth between him and Daisy in the past and how he had to leave for war and she was suppose to wait for him but she didn't
    The real story about Myrtle's death is exposed and the true murderer is told which was Daisy
    George was lied to by Tom and takes justice upon his own hands and kills Gatsby then himself
  • Chapter 9

    Gatsby dies and at his funeral his "closest friend" doesn't show up, he was just a business friend
    The readers are shown a different point of view on Gatsby at his funeral
    Nick returns to the Midwest leaving behind all the drama
