The roaring 20s
The 1920s was a very good time for the economy and people took advantage of that. They thought the good times would last forever but it only lasted a decade. People started to buy expensive luxury items without even having enough money in the bank. -
The end of the good times
At the end the 20s people realised that they didnt have the money to keep buying anything they wanted. This caused people to stop making so many purchases. When people of all classes stop putting money into the economy, that means less production and a lot less job positions. This is the cause of the great depression. -
The crash of 1929
In october of 1929 the stock market crashed. This was one of the larges causes of the Great Depression. This single event led to the devistation most people had to go through when the 1930's started. -
Bank Failures
The 1930s was a time of many bank failures. Banks of the time were uninsured so as they lost money and failed everyone that put money into that bank lost all of their savings. There were over 10,000 banks that failed just over the 10 years of the depression. -
Roosevelt's ideal to save the economy.
Between 1933 and 1936 roosevelt put the ideal of kick-starting the economy back to working condition. His ideal was to make the government push money they didn't have into the economy hoping it willresolve the depression and get them the money back. -
Unemployment at it's peak
Unemployment for the year of 1933 had reached it highest suring the depression. The rate was up as high as 25%. This means that 1 in every 4 people didn't have a job or any income. These people were usually stranded on the streets. -
The New "New Deal"
Between 1935 and 1936 roosevelt put his new improved plan in place. This plan added acts in order to help people. The main targets were the elderly, native americans, and farmers. -
The Dustbowl
Between 1934 and 1936 the dustbowl was at its worst. This time was called the dustbowl because it was full of extremely strong dust storms causing lots of damage tocrops in the way. These crops were worth money for the farmers so this event made the depression even worst. -
The Court-Packing Scheme
The court packing scheme was an attempt by FDR to get more people in the court in order to prevent his new deal from being opposed. Many republicans and even people in his own party were extremely enraged by the fact that he tried to do this. -
The New Deals End
The economy was still doing very bad during the time so FDR was forced to give up. Without any federal support the economy crashed yet again causing many people do start loosing their possesions again.
