    Cambodia wins there independence from France, Under King Sihanouk, it becomes the kingdom of Cambodia.

    Sihanouk breaks off relations with the U.S and allows North Vietnamese guerrillas to setup bases in Cambodia.

    The U.S Begins a secret bombing campaign against the North Vietnamese Forces on Cambodian soil.

    Tensions rise as Cambodia charges two citizens with spying after they were arrested for crossing the border. Cambodia and Thailand agree to withdraw troops form disputed area.
  • Hun Sen re elected

    After nearly a year of political deadlock, prime minister Hun Sen is re elected after CPP strikes a deal with the royalist Funcinpec party. Parliament ratifies kingdoms entry into World Trade organization. King Sihanouk abdicates and is succeed by his son.

    Ta Mok one of the top leaders of the Khmer Rouge Regime dies aged at 80, Parliament votes to abolish prison terms for defamation. A junior partner in the ruling of coalition drops prince Norodom Ranariddh as its leader.

    Ranariddh is sentenced in absent in to 18 months for selling the funcinpec party’s headquarters a charge he denies.
