The Dessert: part 2

First memory
Jeannette and her family were living in Arizona. She was only three and was making a hot dog by herself. She caught on fire, went to the hospital and ending up with serious burns.Her parents didn't want her in the hospital and her dad took her. This is her earliest memory. -
Moving
Jeannette is now four years old. The girls discuss how many times they have moved. They figure out its been over eleven times. They then settle down in a home in Midland, California. -
School
The kids finally go to back to school. Jeannette has a difficult time and tries to not show how smart she is. Last time she showed her smarts and got bullied. -
Phoenix
They move to Phoenix, more in the city life. They are happy because its the niceset house they have had. However, there are some really creepy people in the neighboorhood, and Jeannette gets touched at night by a pervert from the neighborhood. -
Drinking
Her father finally stops drinking for a little bit after being the only reguest from Jeannette on her tenth birthday. However, he pretty quickely breaks the promise. This really shows how he is a true alcoholic. -

Welch: part 3

Welch
They move to the tiny town of Welch, West Virgina. Its a poor town that is not nicely kept up. They first move into Erma's house, she is the dads mother and they immediately dislike her.
While the parents have gone back to Arizona to get more of their things Erma molests Brian. Then after being stopped by the girls they all get into a fist fight. Erma locks them out of the upstairs leaving them with access to the basement or outside. -
Extemely poor on Hobart Street
They move into a tiny house in the poorest part in Welch. They are the poorest family on the street and their house doesn't have plumbing, only three rooms, hardly no electricity, plus it has a bad roof. When the winter came it made this time even more difficult.
The dad still has the dream to build the "glass castle" and even started with the foundation. -
Erma dies - more problems
After Erma dies, Dad drinks a lot and is gone for a few days. Also when taking showers at their uncles place, Jeannette stops going because the uncle touches her inappropiately. They find the diamond ring, the mom doesn't want to sell it in order to pay for the house and to get food for the family. Jeannette wants her \to leave their dad so they can go on welfare. Also child services gets called on them. Mom doesn't like this, but insists staying with their father, but she does get a job. -
New York- Lori
Lori moves to New York. Even after the Dad took all the money Lori, Jeannette and Brian had been saving, she still was able to leave and get a job as a waitress. Jeannette really wantes to go too, but she knows college would be more expensive out of state, however she makes a plan! -

New York for Jeannette
At the end of Jeannette's junior year of high school she decides to leave to go live in New York so she can persue her writing dreams. She is going to school in New York her senior year so she can get in-state college tuition. Even though the move is hard for her parents she still does it. -
All kids in New York
Jeannette and Lori are both doing well in New York and have gotten their own place in the Bronx. The situation at home in Welch is only getting worse. So at the end of Brians eleventh grade year he moves out to New York. He attends Barnard school, is a nanny, and gets his own place. Maureen also moves in with Lori. -
Parents move
Both the parents come out to New York. They move from a boarding house, to a flip house, to Loris place, to Brians place, but in the end they don't like their rules. Brian had a no drinking rule, and the dad could take it. In the end they both end up on the streets. However, the kids got a life that was better then they could have ever expected.
