They travelled home faster because of a nice lady driving by, giving them a ride, instead of walking home.

The grandma, Erma, doesn't like blacks and the fact that Jeannette is helping one with a his or her studies.

A family, who Jeannette babysat for was moving and invited Jeannette to come with, but she gave the offer to Lori to soon go to N.Y.
