When she was 3 years old, she burns herself cooking hotdogs. She had severe burns and spent a considerable amount of time in the hospital. -
Living in the desert
The Walls family was always on the move. They lived in Las Vegas, Midland, Blythe, and Battle Mountain. Jeannette started school and loved to learn. -
93 Little Hobart St
The family moves out from their grandparents house and moves to 93 Little Hobart St, the only house in town they can buy. The house is falling apart and the kids are regularly ridiculed for living in a dump. -
Phoenix
Jeannette's mother inherits a house so they move to Phoenix. They finally have money and all the children get bikes. Jeannette asks her dad to stop drinking for her birthday present. He stops for a week before relapsing -
Welch
They move to Welch, West Virginia in hope that Rex's parents can support them and help Rex with his drinking. His parents are alcoholics too and sexually abuse the children. -
Welch High School
Jeanette begins high school, and finds her passion, journalism. She finds her place and fits in better in school, and gets to meet her dad's idol - Chuck Yeager. -
New York Dreams
Lori moves to New York as soon as she graduates high school. Jeanette is inspired to move out of Welch as soon as she can. She works at a jewelry store and babysits so she can move out as soon as she finishes her junior year. -
College
In NYC Jeannette finds a job at a newspaper and starts going Barnard college on mostly full scholarship. Her parents move to New York after Brian and Maureen join Lori but they end up living on the streets -
Financially stable
Jeannette become wealthy but is ashamed of her parents poorness. Her father dies, she divorces her husband and remarries, and tries to find happiness. -
Thanksgiving
Lori and Brian's families, and her mother, meet up at Jeanette's house. They give a toast to Rex Walls.
