A Women on the Street (Pg. 3-5)
jeannette is married and pretty wealthy. Her parents on the other hand live on the streets and dig through trash. She is embarrassed by them and tries to give them money but they always refuse. Her parents choose to live like they do and they didn't want to change. -
The Desert (Pg. 9-14)
When Jeannette was young she had to make her own supper and one time she caught on fire. She was rushed to the hospital and had to stay there for a while. Her father hated hospitals and he would argue with the nurses until one day he grabbed his daughter and ran out. -

After Jeannette's incident, she became obsessed with fire and would play with it. She even by accidentally melted her dolls face with a match she took from her Dad. -
(Page 17-18)
One morning Jeannette's Dad made their family pack all the stuff they need. The got in the car but he wouldn't tell them where they were going. Unfortunetaly, Jeannette had forgotten her doll and along the way her father ended up throwing their cat out the window. -
(Page 19-25)
Jeannette would move from place to place to escape the people chasing her Dad and her parents would home school them. Her Dad also taught them how to use numerous weapons. He would get drunk and tell many stories about his past. He said he was going to make a"Glass Castle" for them whenn the find gold and become rich. -
(Page 26-28)
Jeannette's parents would tell her stories about when her and her siblings were born. They also talked about how they had another daughter named Mary Charlene but she died. Her mother didn't mind that the baby died as much but her father was never the same. -
(Page 29-31)
Jeannette's Dad took them to Las Vegas and when they were driving along, she fell out of the car. She was injured but stayed in her spot until her perents came back for her a while later. -
(Page 32-34)
Jeannette lived in Vegas for about a month until their hotel caught on fire and burned down. They were then warned for illegally sleeping on the beach and that is when they decided to move back to the desert. -

Their mother is now pregnant. When she has the baby they planned to move to Blythe. -
(Page 39-41)
Since they were poor, they couldn't get gifts for christmas so they knew santa wasn't real. Instead of toys their father let them each chose a star. jeannette chose Venus. It was a planet but her Dad stilol said she could have it. -

Jeannette had to go to school in Blythe. Her and Brian got into a fight with some Mexican girls and ended up winning. Their mother finally had her baby. It was a girl and they named her after her two grandmothers and her mother. -

After they were almost arrested again becasue they drove away from a cop car they decided to move again. The got a moving truck and since there was only room for two in the front, all the kids had to ride in the back of the trunk. While drining the trucks back doors swung open but luckily another vehicle noticed and notified their parents. There Dad was upset even though it wasn`t their fault because if it was a cop, they would have been in jail. -

Where they lived wasn't the best place but it was good enough for them. They would use other things thhey would find as furniture since they were so poor and they even slept in boxes. They once tried to drag a piano into their living space but their plan didn't work and it ended up stuck outside. -

They had gotten used to where they lived. They would find their own ways to entertain themselves such as playing near the train tracks or pretending to parachute. They would even go out for dinner every once and a while since their Dad now had a job as an elactrician. There Dad didn't drink anymore and instead he would teach them how to gamble and read words in the dictionart -

Jeannette's father put her,her brother and her sister in school. They thought it was easy. One time they were testing to see if stuff was flammable and Jeannette and her brother even set the shack on fire but luckily their Dad saved them. -

They didn't get an allowance so to buy candy they would get money from scrap medal they found on the street. They would watch the green lantern house a lot and when they asked their mom about it she said that the women were really nice to the men. -
(Page 64-66)
There father would take them to the "hot pot" which was water with sulfur in it. Jeannette didn't know how to swim so her Dad would throw he in and she'd dink. Then he would save her but then throw her back in again. He repeated this process until she learned to swim. -
(Page 67-72)
Rex lost his job so they were forced to move again. Rose was arguing with him saying that they should move in with her Mom but he got mad and refused. After weeks of arguing, one day Jeannette saw her mother hanging out of a window. The only thing holding her in was her Dad. When the got her back inside, she said that Rex tried to kill her. But he denied it and said that she jumped out the window herself. -

A boy named Billy and his Dad moved near them. He tried to be jeannette's girlfriend but she refused. One time they were both hiding in this little shed and he started kissing her and tried to take her shorts off. She defended herself and got away but he kept saying that he raped her. He came to her house the next day with a bebe gun and tried to shoot Jeannette and her siblings but they grabbed their Dad's gun and chased him away. Then they had to pack up and move again because of the police. -

There Mom got a job teaching for Lori's class. The students loved her because she let them get away with anything. The teachers said she needed to disipline her kids more so when they would watch her class she would pretend to disipline Lori. -
(Page 76-80)
Rex would take Rose's teaching money for research so she would attempt to hide some of it. Brian told Jeannette that one time he and Dad went with one of the people at the green lantern house, named Ginger. He said his Dad went with Ginger into the bedroom and he stayed and read his comic book. When they come out of the room he was forced to give her his comic book. This made him upset becasue she made a lot of money and could have bought her own. -

They were going to move to Pheonix. Jeannette asked if they were going to live with their grandmother but her mom simply said that her grandmother had died. They ended up living in one of Rose's mom's houses and it was in an area where she could start off her art career. -
(Page 94-101)
Once they moved into the house their Dad got a job as an electrician. He even bought them bikes and they finally had some money. Although they had a nice house it was filled with termites and cockroaches. When they asked there mother to get chemicals to get rid of the bugs she would disapprove and said to just try to kill them themselves. -
(Page 102-105)
In their new neighbour hood their were a lot of gipsies that would steal their stuff and perverts that always wanted to play with them. People would always show up in their house at night thinking it was abandon. One time a pervert came in the house and tried to play with Jeannette but her and Brian chased him away. They would always go pervert hunting trying to find as many as they can to get rid of. -

Their father was getting tired of everything being so organized. The neighbour lady saw a mountaim lion in their backyard and called people to come and kill it. This made Rex furious. He took them all to the zoo and showed them how to calm the animals. In the end they were kicked out because they were petting lions, which was dangerous and against the rules. -
(Page 110-115)
Rex kept losing all of his jobs and they were back to living on very little money. That christmas they were going to acctually celebrate. They got cheap gifts for eachother and even got a christmas tree. Before they opened the gifts they went to the midnight mass at the church. Rex was mouthing off again as usual. When the got home he was drunk and ended up wracking the tree. -

jeannette turned 10 and for her birthday she asked her Dad to stop drinking. He became sick, but when he got better they decided to go to the Grand Canyon. On the way he spead down the road so fast that their vehicle broke down. They began to walk home but a lady offered to drive them back. When they got back their Dad left and when Jeannette waited for him to come back, he never did. -

Rex was back to drinking again. They decided they were going to move to West Virginia, where Rex's parents lived. They decided to keep their old house but they packed up and drove to their new place. -

After a while of travelling they arrived at Rex's parents house. The house wasn't in a very good condition and the food wasn't cooked right. They slept downstairs in their uncles room who also lives there. The kids didn't really like the house and they sensed that their gradnmother hated them. -

The day after they moved to Welch they toured around. They looked at the river and all the old buildings. It was a very poor town but Rose wanted to stay becasue she would be their only artist, so she wouldn't have to compete with anyone. -

They went to their new schoolm and their Mom told the principal that they were special. Jeannette was beat up by three black girls becuase they thought that she thought that she was better than everyone else. -
(Page 140-144)
The bullying continued until one day she saved a black boy who lived near one of the bullies. They became friends and studied together which made Erma upset because she is against black people. -
(page 145-148)
Their parents went back to their old house to get the rest of their stuff. While they were gone Erma was touching Brian in innapropriate places and ended up physically fighting with Lori. Erma got upset and locked them all in the basement. -
(Page 149-154)
Erma banished rhem so they ended up moving to a crappy broken down house near by. They never got the stuff from their old house because it had all been stolen. -
(Page 155-158)
They began digging a hole in their land for the glass castle but their Dad hadn't started it yet. In their new house there was a rat and one night it was on Maureen. Their dog killed the rat and they hung it outside. To make the house look better jeannette tried painting the house yellow but in the end only half was painted. -
(Page 159-164)
Jeannette want to her friends house. Her mom was supposed to be a prostitute and she planned to ask her about it. In the end they never talkked about it becasue they talked about California instead. -

Their family would read together but they were never as close as they were before. One night Jeannette's father came home late with two deep gashes. One was on his head and the other on his arm. He made her sew his arm by herself. She was hesitant but he helped her. -

There was a lot of fighting in Welch but they fought more than others. their biggest fight was when this gang would come and make fun of their house and throw rocks at them. They made a ccatapolt so when they came rocks flew towards them annd scared them away. -
(Page 171-174)
They were constanty running out of food. At school they were made fun of for being too skinny. They would take the other students lunches from the dumpsters. They also found out that their mother had been sneaking junk food and was addicted to sugary foods. -
(Page 175-179)
Winter came around and no matter how much they tried they would always be freezing. Lori burnt herself on there stove once when she used kerosene to keep the fire going. -
(Page 180-185)
Erma died and her husband and son moved into an appartement. They would shower there and sometimes their uncle would act inapropriate. Dex would get drunk and run away a lot. -
(Page 186-188)
jeanntte and Brian found a diamond ring and they could have sold it for food. Instead Rose kept it for her self-esteem since she had a no wedding ring. jeannette finally decided to ask her Mom to leave her Dad so they could receive money. Her Mom said no and also refused to get a job. -

A man showed up while Jeannette was home alone saying that a neighbour had called saying the children in their house were being neglacted. She told the man they weren't neglected and that their parents had a job. The man said he would be back and then left. Jeannette told her mother and she said she would get a job. -

it was really hot in Welch now. To stay cool they had a pool. The other kids didn't like when Jeannette would swim with them, so one time she was invited to go swimming with the black people. She played with them and had a good time. -
(Page 196-198)
Rose became a teacher and Jeannette, Brian and Lori all got smaller jobs and they had quite a bit of money. But by the end of the month, all the money would be gone and they would be starving again. -

At highschool she never really talked to her old friend Dinitia who ended up going to jail. She decided that she needed braces and since they were too expenive she tried to make her own. -
(Page 203-205)
Jeannette began working for her school newspaper. She likes reading and writing articles and she decided she was going to be someone who knows what is going on in the world. -

Her Dad stole all the money her Mom had sent them. She decided to get a job at the jewellery store. She made good money. She stole one of the watches once but ended up taking it back because she felt too guilty. -

Her Mom finally came home but decided she was going to quit her job. Jeannette told her to start acting like a mother which ended up getting her whipped by her Dad. She ran away and decided she would get away from Welch as soon as she was able to. -

Rose and Lori had gone aeay for the summer leaving Jeannette with some money and the responsibilities. Her father kept asking for money but she couldn't say no. He said he would pay her back and he eventually did. He took her gambling where she was almost raped but they made a lot of money gambling. -
(Page 222-225)
Jeannette and Lori made a plan to geet to New York and even Brian helped pitch in money. Re came home one day and he had won a Cadillac named Elvis. It was their new family car that everyone loved and they would go on long trips with it. -
(Page 231-234)
Jennette was back to writing the school newspaper again, Her Dads only hero, Chuck Yeager, came and she got to interview him. Eberyone asked her about it and when she got home her Dad helped her write an article about it. -
(Page 226-230)
They had saved a good amount of money for New York. Lori made a sculpture of shakespeare for a schollorship but rex came home drunk and wrecked it. He also stole all the money. Lori finally got to go to New York to help babysit some kids and when she left, she never looked back. -
(Page 235-238)
Jeannette had decided that she would move to New York before shw graduated. Her Dad tried to get here to stay by bribing her with the glass castle he would build but she was sure of her plan. -

Summer came early and it suddenly got real. The nightb before she packed her bags and was off the next day. Her Dad was upset and hoping that his favourite child would some day come back. -
New York City (Page 245-251)
Jeanntte ended up going to college and got many jobs editing papers. Brian and Maureen eventually moved to New York as well which made Rex angry. -

After 3 years their parents finally moved to New York. They lived in different appartements but always ended up getting kicked out. They moved in with Lori and Brian but in the end they had to kick them out. They lived in their white but they became homeless once it was toed. -

Her parents have lived on the streets for a while now but they were happy. -

They tried to show their mother all the options she had and all the stuff sh could sell but she refused. -
(Page 260-276)
Their parents finall found a place to stay in. Jeannette had married a guy named Eric and her mom wanted her to ask him for a million dollars so she could buy her brothers land. Maureen ended up going crazy and stabbing Rose and a year later, she moved to California. -
(Page 277-288)
Jeannette's father eventually pasted away. She left Eric and eventually found a new husband. Brian had kids and Maureen still lived in California. In the end the make a toast to rex as a family in memory of all the times they spent together.
