Jonas becomes the receiver as the 'chosen one' at the ceremony of twelves. -
Training
Jonas begins his training with the Giver. -
Receiving his first memory
Jonas receives his first memory of happiness. He was riding on a sled going down a hill of snow. -
Sunburn
Jonas only felt the memory of happiness, so the giver gave him pain. -
Color
The Giver starts to give Jonas memories of color. They start with red, the color of the sled from his first memory. -
Real Pain
The Giver gives Jonas the memory of a broken leg. It was nothing like the sunburn, the was far more painful. -
Even more pain
Jonas walked in to see the giver in pain. He was remembering warfare. Jonas wanted to help so he took the memory from the Giver. This was the first time Jonas saw the Giver in pain. -
A new pain
The Giver shows Jonas emotional pain. He showed Jonas Rosemary, the Giver's daughter. -
Period: to
Release
The Giver shows Jonas a video of a twin being released by his father. Jonas is very upset. -
Leaving
Jonas escapes the community with Gabe. They travel at night and hide during the day. Eventually they hear music, and the two are left confused at the end of the book.
