The Generations Of The Computer

  • Period: to

    First Generation

Vacuum tubes and magnetic drums were the first components of computers. In this generation they started developing machine language. The problem was that they were not functional, because of their size (they occupied an entire room) and their slowness. They were called UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computers).
  • Period: to

    The Second Generation

In this generations, transmitors were started to be used. Vacuum tubes were replaced by these. It made computers less bigger and more reliable, but it also required a cooling system and constant maintenance.
  • Period: to

    The Third Generation

An IC chip (Integrated Circuit) was smaller, more reliable, faster ans less expensive, so that's why they were started to use in computers. Using it for making computers made them even smaller and more reliable, but required an air conditioning system and a highly sophisticated technology when making IC chips.
  • Period: to

    Fourth Generation

Right in this generation is were Microprocessors appeared. There are thousands of them in IC chips. As always, these computers were smaller, and also had less need to be repaired. But you need the latest technology to create Microprocessors.
  • Period: to

    Fifth Generation

At first, in the 90's and 2000's, computers became more smaller and the Internet was created, making it possible to do even more things with them. Now, scientists are planing on making computers with a lot of sensors. They will be even faster and more reliable, but because of having all of these things, people can really depend on them.
  • Period: to

    Sixth Generation

What we know is that this will be the era of artificial intelligence.
