The National Assembly is Formed
On June 20th, 1789, the third estate showed up to the estates general only to find they were locked out. They marched to a local Handball court (not a tennis court) and take the tennis court oath. They promised to never stop working until they got peace and equality. These people named themselves the National Assembly Significance - Some say it was the beginning of the revolution -
The Fall of Bastille
The fall or storm on Bastille was a civilian attack on a military/royal building. The people of paris stormed Bastille in search of much needed gunpowder for the upcoming revolutionary war. Significance - This was the first power that the poeple of france took from the monarchy. -
The Royal Family flees!
The Royal Family escapes from Tuileries Palace in Paris and Attempt to flee to Austria and start a coounter revolution. The made it part of the way there but were stopped in the small town of Varennes and were taken back to paris. Significance - After this the people of France lost all hope in there King and Queen and Now saw them as traitors -
The Monarchy Abolished, France a Republic!?
On September 21st The National ofiicialy named France a Republic after they had imprisoned Louis XVI and his family. Louis was later executed, Marie Attoinette wass not far behind Significance - The revolutionary was succesful in getting rid of the monarchy nd getting freedoms through the decleration of the rights of man -
Reign Of Terror
The reign of terror was a period in the french reevolution where no one was your friend. If you had any reason to go against the revolution you were killed. Everyone found excecution by the Guillotine or National Razor. Robespierre had the majority of the control through voice and charisma Significance - Robespierre took control of France and was said to have saved the rovolution with the thousands and thousands he sent to the Razor. -
Robespierre Arrested and Executed
After Control France for nearly a year and killing thousands by the guillotine Robespierre was arrested and executed. This marked the end of the reign of terror and The Commitee of Public Safety. Significance: Robespierre's death is seen as the last chapter in the Reign of Terror and a revial equality and justice within the French Revolution. Significance - End of the terror and ironic because Robespierre was killed by the very thing he started, The National Razor. -
Directory established
Directory, the French Revolutionary governmnet set up by the constitution, which lasted 4 years.(From November 1795~November 1799). It included the council of 500 meembers and council elders of 250 members. Five Directors were choosen by elders Significance: This government helped pave the way for Napoleon. They also attempted to ban Christianity. Quotation:"The French revolution taught us the rights of man." -Thomas Sankara -
Napoleon bonaparte stages a coup detat
At this time, Napoleon abolished the Directory, and grabs the power of French revolution. Significance: Napoleon takes control of the France. Frane has become popular and Napoleon becomes strategic leader. -
Napoleonic code is introduced.
This code outlining the laws and Freedoms of France.(Freedom of speech, religion, taxes, etc.). This code still being used in France. It has been continuously updated, but never abolished. Significance: First clear laws and Freedoms in France. As it came to be known, influenced many countries with fundamentals that addressed proper procedure for government. -
Napoleon becomes the Emperor of France
Napoleon becomes a sole leader in France. He crowns himself by vote of the people. He easily elected, because most of population liked him. Significance: Napoleon has a sole control of France, but makes the downfall of the fall of Napoleon. -
The Russian War of 1812
Napoleon attempts to invade Russia, but the Russian troops flee, burning all foods and resources, so the French starve and eventually freeze. Significance: It's historically Napoleon's first loss. He lost many

Napoleon exiled, and Louis XVIII is enthroned.
Napoleon is exiled to Elba after a series of poor choices as emperor/leader of France. Before long Louis XVIII in named King, and has sole power France. Significance: France popular leader is gone. The monarchy is back.(Means that revolution virtually useless.) -
The Battle of Waterloo
Napoleon escapes from exile and quickly grabs control of France. Goes to battle against the British, but Prussian forces team up and defeat the French. After the war Napoleon is exiled to St.Helena, where he dies of stomach cancer. Significance: Napoleon completely defeated by British. End of Napoleonic era and end of French Revolution
