Eddie: The main character
This novel is based on a man named Eddie. Eddie's is an old hard working war veteran that works at an amusement park named the Ruby Pier. Today is his 83rd birthday, and he is spending it at work, as per usual. -
The Accident
While working on his birthday, a cart on the roller coaster named Freddy's Free fall malfunctions and breaks off the tracks. Eddie sees a young girl falling out of the cart, he jumps and catches the girl in hope to save her. Eddie dies during this accident, and we are unaware if the young girl survives. -
The entrance to heaven
Eddie feels an impact, a blinding flash, a little girl's hand and then nothingness. Eddie feels light again, his old body doesn't ache anymore and he feels young. Eddie is in heaven. -
Blue Man
Eddie meets a man he thinks he hasn't seen before. His name is Blue man. Eddie was unaware, but he killed Blue man when he was a young boy. Eddie ran out onto the road to fetch his baseball and caused Blue man to swerve to miss Eddie. Blue man didn't hit Eddie, but he later had a heart attack and died from the shock. Blue man explained to Eddie that he was significant to his life because Eddie was a young boy who was meant to live and Blue man died so a young boy could live. -
The Captain
Eddie meets a second person and it's his Captain and friend from war. Eddie and the Captain were prisoners for months together, and when Eddie and the Captain finally escaped, the Captain died from an explosive bomb. The Captain was another person who was significant to Eddie's life because the Captain died so Eddie could live. He also wanted to tell Eddie that he was a very good soldier and to not be depressed about that time of his life. -
Ruby
Eddie now meets a women that he's never seen before. He later finds out that this women is named after the Ruby Pier. The women confronts Eddie about having hate for his father and not speaking to him for 20 years. Ruby then convinces Eddie to forgive him by showing Eddie kind sides of his father that Eddie has never saw before. Eddie confronts his father and apologizes, but his father doesn't say anything. Even though his father doesn't speak, Ruby teaches Eddie to let go of hatred and move on. -
Marguerite
Marguerite is the person Eddie has been wanting to see since he entered heaven, because he has missed her deeply since the day she's died. This women was Eddie's wife and only true love of his life. She supported him through his after war depression and loved him unconditionally. Marguerite died in her 50's which completely destroyed all of Eddie's life enjoyment. Marguerite teaches Eddie that just because someone dies, there love can still last forever. -
Tala
The last person Eddie meets in heaven is a little 5 year old girl named Tala that Eddie killed at war. Tala died in a fire that Eddie was in as well. Eddie knew he couldn't save Tala because then both of them would die. Tala tells Eddie that even though he couldn't save her, the little girl at the Ruby Pier survived. Tala told Eddie to not be discouraged about his life because even though working at the Ruby Pier wasn't Eddie's dream, he was still very good at it. -
The Lesson
Eddie met five people in heaven that gave his life purpose and significance. Eddie realized that everyone in life is connected, even if you don't know them. Eddie can finally come to peace with his life and self. -
Happily ever after..
Now that Eddie has met the five significant people in his life, he is set into the peaceful part of heaven where he can spend an eternity with his love Marguerite.
