    Mapping of The Texas Coast and the First Mainland Spanish Settlement

    Alonso Alvarez de Pineda mapped the Texas coast and commanded a Spanish expedition that sailed along the Gulf of Mexico coastline from Florida to Cabo Rojo. He was significant in finding the coast because he found a water passage.
