Luther enrolls at the University of Erfurt
Luther enrolls at the University to study Law at the request of his father. -
1505
Luther becomes a monk.
It is believed that one day, Luther was traveling back to the university from home by horseback, when he got caught up in a thunderstorm. When lightning struck near him, he cried out " Help! Saint Anna, I will become a monk!'. He survived the storm, and not too long after, he left the University, sold his books and entered an Augustinian monastery. -

Luther is "kidnapped"
Luther is "kidnapped" by Frederick of Saxony and kept in protective custody in the Wartburg castle. -

Luther begins translation of the New Testament.
In 1521, Luther began the translation of the New Testament to German using The Greek New Testament. He then publishes the translation in 1522. -

His children were; Johannes, Elisabeth (dies August 3rd,1528), Magdalena(dies September 20 1529, aged 13), Martin, Paul and Margaret. -

Luther dies
On February 18th, Martin Luther died in the town of his birth and baptism, Eisleben. On February 22nd 1546, his funeral is held at Wittenberg with a sermon preached by his closest friend and supporter, Phillip Melanchthon.
