    Colonial women's domain was the house. Here women took care of children, and kept the house a peaceful. The idea was if the house was pleasing it would attract men away from the evils of the outer world. This led into what was later called the Cult of Domesticity.

    The Cult of Domesticity
    Around this time people were buying into the idea that a woman's "sphere" was the home. Later, this idea would be labeled the Cult of Domesticityand True Womanhood. In this "cult" they held some ideals they held important; these ideals were piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity.

    In July, from 19-20 the first actual convention on women’s rights was held in the Wesleyan Chapel on Fall Street in Seneca Falls. The convention was initiated by Elizabeth Cady Stanton
  • Flapper Gurls

    Flapper Gurls
    In the 1900's after the second World War the term flapper came into existence. Some time later these independant women evolved into the flappers. The flappers wore shorter dresses than the classic dresses that reached the feet. Shirts exposed the neck, shoes were made to make women taller, and drinking was now socially acceptable for both sexes.

    Enacted in 1972 title IX stated "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..." This amendment was created by Congresswoman Patsy Mink.

  • International Year of Women

    International Year of Women
    The IYW was the first government sponsered event that involved women's rights. The conference lasted 3 days and was held in Austin, Texas. The purpose of the convention was to draft up ideas that would be used by congress to create equality between men and women. The commitee came up with 38 resolutions; all but 1 went to congress for review.
