The first 3 point seatbelt was patented by Nils Bohlin a Volvo engineer. The Volvo 122 model was the first model with a 3 point seatbelt. Prior to this model physicians in 1930 put lap belts otherwise known as 2 point seat belts in their own cars and urged automobile manufactures to do the same.
